[opensuse-factory] Problems with intel driver
Hi, Latest factory only boots into a black X without any way to go into text console - the only thing that works is pressing the power off to trigger reboot. Does anyone else see this problem or is it specific to my hardware? Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Sounds specific to your hardware. Latest X stack + Kernel from factory works for me unless I try to use KMS (Intel 945GM). Hmm, I have Intel 965 GM and it fails even if I use i915.modeset=0 explicitly ;( I'm now updating to X11:Xorg explicitly, let's see if it works with it. I hope this is still our default. :-)

Ok. No change ;(

I can confirm with 11.1 and XOrg repository, self compiled 2.6.30.2 kernel and stock update 11.1 kernel both failed with the same result, blank screen and no way to switch to text console or kill the X-Server. Intel X4500HD integrated here. Can't do further testing though as I switched back to 11.1 xorg now. Thanks for the head up! This means I should not update my notebooks installation until this get's resolved. Hope to read here soon some success story about this again. Yes, as there are thousands of laptops with these chipsets being used by openSUSE users! Fred -- "Where's The Birth Certificate?" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

BTW: it wasn't specific to my hardware but to my broken installation. I had old libdrm files around - left from an experiment with git versions, nothing someone else would get :) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Greetings, Stephan
I reported something like this as a bug - unfortunately because I got so swamped with other work I abandoned the report (and pretty much everything else in the openSUSE Project - oops ;-) ) Bug: 508581 This is a serious issue - as it prevents me and others from testing 11.2 (on bare metal at least). Does this seem to be the same issue - and can someone help out with it? I won't be able to until next week at the earliest... -- Kevin "Yeaux" Dupuy openSUSE Project Member www.twitter.com/KevinDupuy -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
