[opensuse-factory] Questions re Tumbleweed
I just installed oS 12.2 and then "upgraded" it to Tumbleweed. The burning question I have about TW is: how can I install - and/or should I install - latest versions of programs/applications/DE in TW? For example, TW has only KDE 4.9.5 but v 4.10 has been around for a while (and I have it in oS 12.2). Also, the latest version of LibreOffice is 4.0 but the one in TW is 3.6. Can I use the KDE 4.10 repo used for 12.2 to upgrade KDE in TW? But re LibreOffice, I install it manually as a download from the LO site. Can I do the same in TW? The burning question I have about TW is:

I add various "Tumbleweed" repos with the usual warning about published but not ?? main-stream repos and get *nearly* "cutting-edge" versions of apps. Greg KH has some "testing" mechanism he uses before committing newer versions of apps to TW, (a good thing). Although I haven't the need nor really looked for 4.x LO, I don't believe it is published yet for TW. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

So......are you saying that one cannot use the 12.2 KDE repo to get v4.10 into TW but have to wait for Greg to provide v4.10? I am bit puzzled about this because I thought that Tumbleweed was supposed to be uptodate and even "beyond" the latest official release. For example, TW which I installed tonight has kernel 3.8.1.30 - but not KDE 4.10. Only asking 'cause I am confused.....

Not to my knowledge, also not for 12.1/12.2/12.3/Factory/... I haven't looked as yet at the "repo web page" you mention above but I would have expected all this information to be included in the Tumbleweed Portal. (BTW, the Portal info is not correct. For example, the "1-click install" doesn't work, and the instructions on how to create the repos don't work - I had to manually create them in YaST2 Software Management.)

OK, so you accept that the wiki web page is stuffed and is not working correctly. I'll agree with this because I can go to a site like packman and use the "1-click install" without any hassles. I haven't looked as yet at the "repo web page" you mention above but I would have expected all this information to be included in the Tumbleweed Portal.
How that will happen? Asking someone to sip trough about 75000 results of Google search on download server with query site:download.opensuse.org tumbleweed or about 69200 results of (home projects excluded) site:download.opensuse.org tumbleweed -"/home" or about 3700 results of: site:build.opensuse.org tumbleweed or about 2550 results of (home projects excluded) site:build.opensuse.org tumbleweed -"/home" and put results on a wiki page? Asking someone to sip trough about 75000 results of Google search on download server with query site:download.opensuse.org tumbleweed
[pruned] Sorry, Rajko, but I think that you are well off the beam here. Nobody is asking to wade thru the results in Google. If Patrick was able to quote me the repos which are Tumbleweed related then this information can simply be made available in the wiki for TW. It's as simple as that. In fact, the whole thing would be so much better if the wiki: 1. used a better font than it does at present. I can see well but I pity those who have to read the stuff on a laptop or notebook; and 2. was more along the lines what Ubuntu has in its documentation which is to found here: https://launchpad.net/ and here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community AND you now have a person posting in opensuse-project (to whom you responded) who is just bursting with energy to do something for openSUSE including creating a (yet another) website/wiki for oS.
