[opensuse-factory] Where can I find older Tumbleweed ISOs with Kernel4?
Since about v5 of the kernel, Tumbleweed on my wife's AMD laptop (Dell Inspiron 11 3000) no longer allows suspension (rather, freezer upun awakening). I got it working again with installing a kernel v4 but now lostit in a zypper dup. Is there a place I can find older Tumbleweed ISOs with Kernel4? Thanks Milan PS: I cannot use http://review.tumbleweed.boombatower.com/ snapshots for this as disk is sooo limited on this laptop Also, https://download.opensuse.org/ now only has the latest ISOs -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Also, https://download.opensuse.org/ now only has the latest ISOs That's just a workaround that will work temporarily. If you still have /can get the kernel 4 packages, you could perform a forced install, then use zypper to lock the package version.
But, it would be better to diagnose what goes wrong, so it can be fixed. Another option you have is to install Leap 15.1 on her laptop. Does she actually need TW right now? -- Gertjan Lettink a.k.a. Thanks for the follow up, some details below:
- On getting kernel 4 packages: That is the thing, I do not know where
to find them. This was my preferred short term solution, as it worked
once. I did not lock the kernel package, and the boot after zypper dup
removed it. Do you know where to find v4 TW kernels or full ISOs?
There are no obvious links and my google fails me
- On identifying the issue: I was thinking trying all TW versions and
finding the one that broke this, but this laptop is relatively slow
for everything .. and I cannot find the older TW kernels or ISOs, so
back to square one.
- On installing Leap 15.1: I had issues with Leap 15.0 on that very
laptop, so I assumed that may continue as kernels in 15.0 and 15.1 are
the same AFAIK
Thanks

I have a 15.0 desktop machine that crashes on return from hibernation, that doesn't so much with a 15.1 kernel, and better with 15.1 complete. I also have a backup copy of some TW kernels, but I don't remember the version. I'll check later and tell. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Thanks Carlos. If you can find some TW kernels v4 that would be
available online, that would be great. The history on the opensuse
download site only goes back a month or so.

Actually using tumbleweed-cli only for changing to older repos, using YaST to install the older kernel, or plain zypper in kernel-*$version.rpm, then uninit the tumbleweed script, i.e. have your repos back, edit zypp.conf to keep that specific kernel version.

Realistically, only the sources are kept long-term, which means a bunch of versions would have to be rebuilt to be able to test. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have a collection of kernel packages in OBS. For 4.20.x, you can find in OBS home:tiwai:kernel:4.20 repo, for example. Only the very latest TW kernel of each kernel version is kept, though. Also, only kernel-default, no other flavors. HTH, Takashi

I have these on this machine: cer@Telcontar:/data/storage_c/repositorios_zypp/LocalRPMs_15.0-TW> ls *4.20* kernel-debug-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-default-devel-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-obs-qa-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-debug-devel-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-kvmsmall-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-syms-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-default-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-kvmsmall-devel-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-vanilla-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-default-base-4.20.13-1.2.1.3.x86_64.rpm kernel-obs-build-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm kernel-vanilla-devel-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm If you want them, I'd upload to Google Drive for you to download, or email, divided in several chunks of 2 megs, say. But seeing what Takashi Iwai said, I think that route is more appropriate and easy. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

The very PC I'm typing this from has the last 4.20 TW kernel: http://fm.no-ip.com/Share/Linux/kernel-default-4.20.13-1.2.x86_64.rpm -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. thanks to all who helped, and thanks for Takashi and Felix for
providing links to 4.20 kernels.
I have installed 4.20, made it the default boot, locked it this time,
and the laptop wakes up from suspend without hanging.
Thanks,
Milan

Strange results from sharing the link. I got 13 hits so far from 7 unique IPs, 6 of which report Windows, the other reporting Android. :-p -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Team OS/2 ** Reg.
