Konqueror can't connect to any site
After recent updates, Konqueror can't open any sites, while Firefox works perfectly. I get this message on Konqueror's window: -- An error occurred while loading http://www.google.com: Could not connect to host http://www.google.com/. -- On the terminal I can see: -- ~> LANG=en konqueror ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in ./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (79) ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in ./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (79) ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in ./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (79) ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in ./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (79) -- Version: kdebase3-3.5.1-48 Any tips? -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net

My konquerer works fine... But I would think an ethereal trace would be more revealing than the assert messages. Is there a proxy involved? -Chad

Odd as hell! www.google.com -> can't resolve, then it tries www.google.com.mylocaldomain and it obviously doesn't work either www.brazil.gov.br -> resolves to wrong IP address, since it can't connect, it tries www.brazil.gov.br.mylocaldomain www.whitehouse.gov -> resolves correctly, but can't connect (local SYN, remote FIN/ACK, local ACK, remote FIN/ACK, then stops), after that, it tries to resolve www.whitehouse.gov.mylocaldomain www.networksolutions.com -> resolves correctly, but can't connect (local SYN, remote SYN/ACK, local ACK, remote SYN/ACK, local ACK, then stops), after that, it tries to resolve www.networksolutions.com.mylocaldomain As I said before, Firefox, links and wget work fine. New user with empty KDE profile, doesn't work either. No proxies involved. I'm really lost here. :( -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net

Oh my... Now the problem looks worse. Neither Konqueror even amaroK can connect to any HTTP site. :( BTW, Konqueror works fine with FTP connections. Looks like a problem with kio_http, although I don't know how to debug it. Any help? Likely KDE might think it is in Offline mode. Did you use Networkmanager and switched it off or similar? Ciao, Marcus

NetworkManager isn't work nice with me [1], and because of that I closed KNetworkManager (the underlying subsystem is up, although I'm working with ifup/ifdown) [1] https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=161796 -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net

More details: When I open Firefox, it comes up in offline mode. I need to uncheck the option (File menu) to make it work. Under Konqueror, the "Work offline" is UNCHECKED. Even if I check then uncheck it again the problem persists. -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net
I can confirm this problem.. somehow. My Konqueror didn't connect to websites at random - some worked, some others did not. I think it worked again after some time (of course I didn't do anything! ;)), I haven't experienced it today. Firefox works flawlessly all the time. I'm using KNetworkManager with my wired connection. Philipp On Wednesday 05 April 2006 18:49, Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) wrote:

Not working again. Any tips on how to debug this? How can I switch online/offline mode in KDE? (Konqueror's "Work Offline" is currently unchecked). -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net

How can I switch online/offline mode in KDE? (Konqueror's "Work Offline" is currently unchecked). I'm quite sure it's not KDEs fault, but a Networkmanager-Problem. I had

I received this on my personal e-mail. Luis Miguel García wrote:
for your problem in wich konqueror doesn't works, go to Yast2 and in Network module, say that you don't want to use NetworkManager. You need to say that you want to use the "old style" method with ifup ifdown.
I disable KNM, changed the interface to "old style" and now all KDE apps work fine. So I guess I have two problems: a) KNM can't setup my wireless LAN; b) KNM puts KDE in offline mode even if I ifup the interface manually. Which one should I open a bug report? :) -- % Mauricio Teixeira (netmask) % mteixeira{a}webset{d}net <> Maceio/AL/BR % http://mteixeira.webset.net <> http://pmping.sf.net

If in doubt: both ;-) (search bugzilla first, of course.) a) should contain a description of your hardware (which card etc.) b) could be a "wontfix" - but you can just try it ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- ...von den vier Mitgliedern der "Nimbus Monospaced(!)"-Familie ist angeblich nur die Regular Monospaced - die anderen sind... nun ja... proportional, nur eben alle gleich proportional. =%-) [Ratti in fontlinge-devel nach Auslesen der "monospaced"-Infos]
