[opensuse-factory] reverting from libusb-compat to libusb0
Hallo. Due to reported regressions in applications using libusb-compat, openSUSE 11.1 will revert to libusb0. Developers are still encouraged to test packages with libusb1. To do it, simply change libusb-devel to libusb-compat-devel in BuildRequires. If it will work, feel free to submit your change for 11.2 (after 11.1 release). For details, please follow upstream discussion: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=1226510657.1845.60.camel%40hammer.suse.cz&forum_name=libusb-devel -- Best Regards / S pozdravem, Stanislav Brabec software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: sbrabec@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 966, +49 911 740538747 190 00 Praha 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Do you have a pointer to these reported regressions anywhere so that they can possibly be fixed? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443861 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439574 (customer bug) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=432129 And just the one from upstream: http://www.nabble.com/Re%3A-patch-for-libusb-0.9.3-libusb-os-linux_usbfs.c-p... Please follow upstream discussion referred in the previous mail. There may be several sources of these crashes: 1) Real regressions. 2) Bug incompatibility. It seems to be the most often problem. libusb0 is more tolerant to incorrect usage. Even in some situations, where libusb0 "may crash", libusb-compat returns EINVAL. If "may crash" is actually false, then people see regression. 3) Abuse of internal libusb structures. As far as I know, only gnuradio is affected. -- Best Regards / S pozdravem, Stanislav Brabec software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: sbrabec@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 966 190 00 Praha 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
