[opensuse-factory] bug 234533 should be solved?
I'm hit by the bug #234533. It's resolved "wont fix" "because it's a feature, not a bug" but 1) it's a bug only on pci-e (here mini pci, laptop), why this special hardware hve such a feature? 2) the comment on bugzilla say: the patch will be enclosed with 2.6.20 kernel. I have 2.6.22.9.0-4-default and I have still the bug 3) a web search shows that ndiswraper don't works reliably with the bcm43xx module what can I do? do i need to reopen the bug or to try using ndiswraper anyway? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

thanks jdd solved thanks to an ubuntu forum :-).
I had to extract the firmware and give it to the module. I still have to figure how to make this permanent, but i wont too much be a problem. I will test and report to the wiki (may be just adding indexes, I didn't find it there but it may be :-) I wil also report to bugzilla thanks -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

You can use wl_apsta.o or original bcmwl5 or whatever you can find in windows. It works here, with a small glitch(es) that I still didn't solved, but with time ... -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

as I said, it's probably a problem of indexing the info. my card is "bcm94311" and I searched initially for 94311... I will review it thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I'm hit by the bug #234533. It's resolved "wont fix" "because it's a feature, not a bug" A non-enhancement bug can be filed if functionality that's assumed to work doesn't. As you can see lmb changed severity from blocker to enhancement because of this.
but
1) it's a bug only on pci-e (here mini pci, laptop), why this special hardware hve such a feature? Because it's _not_ a must that all hardware working with Window$ will automagically do that with Linux. You have to find a volunteer to do the development for this. 2) the comment on bugzilla say: the patch will be enclosed with 2.6.20 kernel. I have 2.6.22.9.0-4-default and I have still the bug The reporter said he has a patch (the mentioned URL doesn't work), but you can't espect that such a patch will be integrated in mainline kernel if kernel maintainers (outside of SUSE) are not willing to do that. 3) a web search shows that ndiswraper don't works reliably with the bcm43xx module :-(
what can I do? do i need to reopen the bug or to try using ndiswraper anyway? Try ndiswrapper. If this fails, feel free to reopen, but remember: this will remain an enhancement until mainline kernel developers say this should work.

where is the "feature"? as said in bugzilla, its seems like the fact that it wont work is intentional (as it is whit the proprietary driver problem), but if so it should be for all the same drivers
2) the comment on bugzilla say: the patch will be enclosed with 2.6.20 kernel. read bugzilla. it's said the patch will be included. it's not and this could be noted there (I will)
Try ndiswrapper. If this fails, feel free to reopen, but remember: this will remain an enhancement until mainline kernel developers say this should work.
it works with the good recipe (the direct driver) jdd
