[opensuse-factory] udev/rules errors
Hey Group; I must be one of the only people that uses a non graphic bootup. Due to this error on several machines I am letting you know because it is a very simple fix. Goto /etc/udev/rules.d and change SYSFS to ATTR. It will solve bunches of /var/log/warn errors. This is in 11.2 and .3 -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Donn. Does that apply to all the rules or a particular one? -- Thanks, Tom (retired penguin) openSUSE 11.2 x86_64, KDE 4.4RC2 Kmail 1.13.0, FF 3.6RC1 linxt-at-comcast.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It only applies to 3 rules on this system. Just try from that directory (not Folder) "grep SYSFS *" and then uses sed or vi to edit and replace SYSFS and change to ATTR. -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Going back to when this first appeared, I changed one to see if the warnings ceased for it and it did. There are 7 others with SYSFS that I haven't got around to changing. udevd[627]: SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use ATTR{}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent device, in /etc/udev/rules.d/51-usb-modeswitch.rules:19 Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Which rules is causing this problem? Can you file a bug against the package that added those rules? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

One of the packages was libsane-something. I fixed that up before christmas (because it annoyed me like hell ;) but it took until end of last week until it was submitted from its develproject to FACTORY (I could not do that). Donn, for bugs like these, complaining here is not productive. Just go ahead and fix the packages, it's not a bigger effort than writing an email ;) -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" That's just Donn's style, he was just alerting us all to the noise this is generating on boot up and how to fix them. No one else mentioned it and they were either ignored or quietly fixed. Newbies may also have panicked on seeing these messages flash up the screen, especially if they have subsequent device problems. Since this is due to what packages are installed, it may take some while until every one is purged and updates may, if they overwrite the files in rules.d, bring them right back.
