[opensuse-factory] Can the Activities icon be changed back to the original colorized version for 12.3?
Hello all, I know it's late but...Every time I look at the Activities icon 3D box I'm thinking about VirtualBox. It doesn't look right. I think the original colored traffic lights would look great on black. Yes? -- Cheers! Roman ------------------------------------------- openSUSE -- Get it! Discover it! Really? I'm thinking about a rolling dice and wonder if they added monopoly to the default starter. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
As far as I can tell, the feature is neither stable nor mature but
kactivities4 pulls in some additional dependencies. Otherwise we could
just disable building it and reduce the bloatness factor of our favorite DE.
So if nobody objects, I'll do that soonish.

We had that discussion before (where it belongs, on opensuse-kde ml) and the general consensus was that a lot of KDE users do use activities. Will started an effort to make a "tiny KDE", but I'm not sure were it is. Good to know, I'll pester him then.

I moved this over to opensuse-kde ml. Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
I have to disagree here, I use it occasionally, most often when giving presentations: no more blank screen in the middle of the presentation or during questions, when the desktop is shown no folder view as people have no business with other documents I keep there, the default wallpaper since it is more professional than the other I use, etc. In the beginning I wondered to what it was all about, but now I understand :-) Also, on laptops it can be convenient if you want to have a work related folder view and a home folder view, etc. Best regards, Erwin -- Erwin Van de Velde G+: http://profiles.google.com/erwinvandevelde -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I use it the same way. Nice to have clean, non-personal desktop for presentations, and a personal desktop for other situations, that you can switch between with a couple of clicks. On my mediacenter I also use plasma-desktop. With different activities for movies, tv shows etc. Activities are not hard to understand, it's just different desktops. So far things you can associate with your activities besides just windows: 1. widgets 2. Files and directories 3. Power profiles The timeline may also be activity aware, but I'm not sure about that. I am seeing a lot of commits regarding activities coming down right now. It looks like for 4.11 pretty much all the KDE edu project applications will be activity-aware, for example. But even for 4.11 they do have additional capabilities not present in ordinary virtual desktops. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I agree. I've also been using it for presentations. The activities feature allows users to quickly switch from one type of work profile to another without having to create another user. Agreed, it makes me want to play Yahtzee. I've got a version here which is a monochrome rework of the 3 coloured dots, which I'll submit for 12.3, in agreement with the openSUSE KDE team's designer.

I think those look like something off the front of a 70s Color TV, but each to his own. The concept behind the 12.3 KDE branding is that all the non-application icons on the panel are monochrome, except for the SUSE logo on the app launcher. I am not in 12.3 at the moment (nor can get to it because of a glitch with grub2), so what did you end up with when you changed the desktop theme - did you get the previous coloured balls or what? And to which DE did you change?
