SUSE Linux 10.1 RC1 Status Update
I just want to update you about the SUSE Linux 10.1 RC1 status. We've just build our second internal test build today - and checked in a couple of fixes that we found today. The bugs we're hunting down where: * During installation on x86-64, a conflict arose due to a proposal containing a package both as i386 and x86-64. * A similar problem happend during update with splitted packages * The online update at the end of installation installed on x86-64 a i586 version of suspend. * The installation sources were not registered at the end of the installation. * Showing which server was added as update server We fixed also some other issues in handling of patches and added some more translations. Hope that our testing will not show additional problems so that we can release RC1 on thursday, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
Will there be a patch to update from beta 9 to rc1?

Define "patch"? You could try to use the System Update mechanism of YaST or use y2pmsh, or $package_manager and point it to the factory tree of RC1 to update from there. But we don't plan to release a lot of "patches" in terms of Online Updates. Regards Christoph
I remember seeing a beta8-to-9 file on ftp that looked like a version patch.
Or is there another name for that? I'll try to configure YaST now to check
beta9 directory. I still can't install packages downloaded manually.

Is it possible to update from OSS 10 to Factory by downloading only delta of rpms? Traffic is too expensive for me. Thanks.

Hi! I'd guess the delte iso for updating 10.0 to 10.1 would be about 98% as large as the regular download, and it will consume about twice as much RAM and probably a day or two of CPU time. Maybe the cheapest solution for you is to go to a shop and buy the DVDs or CDs (maybe you know someone who will copy his/her media for you). Regards, Ulrich P.S. If still unobvious: The answer will be "No" I'm sure.

So what's the size of the delta.iso? For gzip, 99% compression means a very tiny output file. Ulrich

Thanks for taking the time to do this! Now we indeed know that such deltas are not worth it. I'll add some snippet to the wiki about it. Regards, Carl-Daniel -- http://www.hailfinger.org/

The only way is using drpmsync. But this means that you need a full sync of the factory tree first. Afterwards drpmsync does only transfer deltas. Look for drpmsync in the wiki for details. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany email: adrian@suse.de

Yes, this is exactly what i want! but is it possible to use drpmsync for sync of separate rpm only? I mean, may be it is possible to create a view of a package tree, that will include the package i need, and then use it for update? or for example i can just tell drpmsync what packages I need exactly in order not to sync the whole factory tree? Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately not yet. But I hope in the very near future... Cheers, Michael. -- Michael Schroeder mls@suse.de main(_){while(_=~getchar())putchar(~_-1/(~(_|32)/13*2-11)*13);}

Is it problem of the client (drpmsync) or server side? And where i can find information about development process and future plans for drpmsync? Thanks a lot!

Not implemented on the client side. In the meantime you might try http://pi3.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/~schiele/mydrpmsync/ if you like. Robert -- Robert Schiele Tel.: +49-621-181-2214 Dipl.-Wirtsch.informatiker mailto:rschiele@uni-mannheim.de "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."

Delta-ISOs as usual - but not patch sinces updating via patches does not work in Beta9, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
