[opensuse-factory] Fwd: normal user not able to login to KDE
Hi,
This is 2 days I have installed Suse 10.2 Alpha 2...and because of
some error the KDM login screen is coming back again and again as i
try to login as ordinary user `digz'.First the autologin failed and
then on manually entering username/password..the login screen comes
back repeatedly. The user root is able to login and KDE starts. My
installation was standard with KDE.This is
/etc/sysconfig/displaymanager.

Log in as the user in a failsafe terminal, run startkde and see what fails. Andras -- Quanta Plus developer - http://quanta.kdewebdev.org K Desktop Environment - http://www.kde.org

Then it should work if you log in directly to KDE as well. Have you tried to do so after this failsafe login? Andras -- Quanta Plus developer - http://quanta.kdewebdev.org K Desktop Environment - http://www.kde.org

I have tried again and again even now I gave it a shot , failsafe and then startkde works ,but directly choosing KDE as the session type from the login screen ,kdm does not let me login. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory-help@opensuse.org

Does ~/.xsession-errors contain any useful information? (Please check the timestamp also - is it written at all?) The same thing is now happening for root and any new users I create on this machine. No KDE/WindowMaker/IceWM thro' KDM login screen ,no autologins ,but choose failsafe , type startkde and it all works, this has to be a bug , I have logged it on bugzilla.novell.com https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=193628 Rgds Digz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory-help@opensuse.org
