[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2 RC2 says internal ruby error on install
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I was attempting to install RC2 on my laptop test partition. I did the partition setup, advanced to next step. Phase "analyzing your system". Details: Unknown udev device /dev/disk/by-label/msdos. Caller: /usr/share/YaST2/lib/bootloader/udev_mapping.rb:33:in `to_kernel_device` Start the Ruby debugger now and debug the issue? (Experts only)!) [Yes] No Instructions? I have the laptop stopped at that point and waiting. Logs? It is a ramdisk. Not that simple, but I can try if I can mount a partition. I suppose you want the /var/log/ - wait, it would be systemd journal? Or YaST logs? What logs exactly do you want? Only the install ramdisk is available for commands. As far as I know, I do not have any partition labeled "msdos" nor did I request to mount one by that name. I'm attempting to install on a ~/GB partition a minimal install. Usually I go with XFS (currently it has installed a 42.1 factory release), but this time I said: XFS, to try. I'm waiting for your instructions, at least till 16 UTC, then I'll have dificulties to keep laptop connected. Will see. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Hi,

YaST2
Error
Internal error. Please report a bug report with logs. Details: Unknown udev device /dev/disk/by-label/msdos. Caller: /usr/share/YaST2/lib/bootloader/udev_mapping.rb:33:in `to_kernel_device`
Well, this happens if bootloader somewhere get this device "/dev/disk/by-label/msdos" but that disk with this label is not found in local storage configuration. Do you use autoinstallation or manual one? Regarding logs, I think that output of save_y2logs should be enough as it shows where this label occur and what is in local configuration. Josef
Start the Ruby debugger now and debug the issue? (Experts only)!)
[Yes] No
Instructions? I have the laptop stopped at that point and waiting.

What logs exactly do you want? Only the install ramdisk is available for commands.

Manual one. I had to use expert partitioning because it wanted to delete good partitions.

The label does not occur, kernel does not list it. The logs are full of references to it, though. I have the logs extracted now to a partition on the hd. I will then reboot to normal system and submit the bugzilla. Thanks. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Done. Bug 1009493
Problem found: on 42.2 you can not install using labels. Install using uuids (the default), and when system boots, change manually (not with yast) to label. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. I wonder when it began, and whether things I do differently constitute a workaround. I don't remember how long ago I last did a 42.2 installation, but almost certainly sometime between two and four weeks ago. I always set the default mount-by to label, but as I always partition, format and label in advance, maybe it's why no crash for me, since all I'm doing with the partitioner is specifying mount points and options. I proceeded to begin another installation my way. No crash. Bug report updated. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." No, it is the mount by which is a problem, and I think it is a problem only on the RC: I have done all my prior tests using mount by label. I did the last test using the installer to create the partitions with labels, but letting it mount by the default, which is uuid. It failed for another reason: booting from xfs partition with grub installed on root is not supported. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
