[opensuse-factory] Yast2 Software repositories MS6
Hi, whenever I try to install software YAST2 can not access the repositories for 11.2. The only for me working repository is the packman 11.1 repository. BTW all the community repositories are still linked to 11.1 version. Thats because 11.2 isn't out yet except for the alpha/beta version a.k.a. milestone# And packman doesn't have an 11.2 repo either because 11.2 hasn't been released yet. Luckily there is a workaround. The easiest way is to do installation in a shell (e.g. 'konsole') like this: export ZYPP_ARIA2C=0 zypper refresh zypper dup (resp. zypper install <whatever>)
This should also work if you install/update with yast (instead of zypper start yast2 from the command line after the export command). These will not exist until 11.2 is officially released. For now you need to use factory: http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ and .../non-oss -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

They *do* exist - pointing to a snapshot repo which only has the proper Milestone snapshot. http://widehat.opensuse.org/factory-snapshot/repo/oss/

Whereas the "real" factory repo, which you recommend, has very frequent updates and of course a higher likelihood of a broken or inconsistent system. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

This does but is different then what the OP was trying to use (see above)

These are the urls which point to the factory milestone snapshots: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss Which are also the preconfigured repos on milestone installations. Oh, for chrissake, I wish you both would make up your minds as to which repos *ARE* the correct ones to use! And I wish someone from Novell/oS who actually KNOWS what are the correct ones to use would come out and spell out the repos to be used in 11.2 Milestone 6. It's bad enough fighting one's way thru downloading a working copy of a KDE Live CD without having to read the above "It is", "It is not", "It is", "It is NOT" :'( . I'm not an expert on the repositories, but I believe one of them is a snapshot taken at the time M6 was released, and the other is factory, which gets updated as new packages get checked in. So pick the one you want to use: if you want always the latest packages, pick factory. If you want the consistency of a snapshot, pick the snapshot Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thank you, Anders, and Martin (re the next post). It has now become a lot clearer as to what is what and what to use. Earlier (last night now :-) ) I actually (finally!) installed MS6 (KDE Live CD) but had to add the factory repos and disable the 'preconfigured' ones because YaST could not find the latter when it went to check for updates. Both flavours are correct. It's a matter of personal preference. a) do you want the factory-snapshot repo - (only updated every 2 weeks or so when there's a milestone release, fewer updates, less breakage, but also a bit "outdated"), or; b) do you want the real deal, moving target, factory - (frequent updates, mucho breakage, constantly on the bleeding, bleeding edge)
And I wish someone from Novell/oS who actually KNOWS what are the correct ones to use would come out and spell out the repos to be used in 11.2 Milestone 6.
I think it's pretty clear that the preconfigured repos in milestone installations are "the recommened ones" - (and that's the snapshot repos) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
