[opensuse-factory] Latest Tumbleweed kernel update 3.3.6 to 3.4.0 breaks cifs-mounting my NAS
Hi,
the latest Tumbleweed kernel update 3.3.6 to 3.4.0 breaks cifs-mounting my
NAS (used to work flawlessly with 3.3.6 and before). Accessing the NAS
with smbclient still works.
Bug?

A newer kernel should not require a userspace tool upgrade, unless something really went wrong. Why is this needed? What changed in the kernel to require this?
If that helps we need to inform Greg to link this version into Tumbleweed too.
I'll be glad to do so once we figure out why it is needed. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

update on this:
My machine at work also has 12.1/Tumbleweed on it. On that machine, I
frequently cifs-mount shares from a Linux-Server running a more recent
Samba version (3.5.7 vs. 3.0.24 on my NAS at home).
For some reason, cifs-mounting at work works (with Kernel 3.4.0-25-desktop
and cifs-utils 4.9-7.7.1.i586 on the client).

Again, we shouldn't need to update any userspace tool to keep the kernel working here, unless there are "odd" patches in the kernel that SUSE has added in this area. Perhaps that's the problem? Does the vanilla kernel work for you? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Again, we shouldn't need to update any userspace tool to keep the kernel working here, unless there are "odd" patches in the kernel that SUSE has added in this area. Perhaps that's the problem? Does the vanilla kernel work for you?
the vanilla kernel shows the very same behaviour (with both versions of
the cifs-utils), but cf. my previous post on my machine at work.

no, where would I do that? Novell's Bugzilla, samba.org's Bugzilla or
somewhere else?

Start with the novell bugzilla.
And report the bugzilla.novell.com (bnc) ID back to the list. Add
samba-maintainers@suse.de to the cc list and assign it to Suresh
