I have tried KDE flavour. After KDE starts an error message appears: "Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: ." But it actually doesn't hurt anything. System works fine and 1 stage of installation succeed. This is a bug that has been around (in KDE) for years and it seems is a WONTFIX at KDE, though it remains ASSIGNED in the openSuSE bugzilla. (they say that I have not enough RAM :-( ). See bug 233602 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233602 There is a work-around that I described then: Wait for KDE to be fully started Right click on desktop, select "Configure Desktop" -> "Behaviour" clear tick-box "Show icons on desktop" Click "Apply" Wait for KDE to action this Set tick-box "Show icons on desktop" Click "Apply" or "OK" Should be back to normal. I got very little feedback and the feedback I got was: still has the same problems booting even with the work around added. So as this got so little interest, I kind of thought that it's no longer worth my time. The original idea though was to push it on software, yes. this one freeze on vmware server loading the rd module. KDE CD 2.5 works in my VMware Server. Also tested successfully real hardware. There has been also a report about a recent KDE Four Live not running in the VMware Workstation of someone while it did in my VMware Server. So maybe some recent subtile change broke something for certain VMware version. The problem can be the factory list. BTW, it works fine in VirtualBox. Network was instantly available. It seems to boot much faster than some previous versions. -- Regards, Rajko --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Installation worked perfectly, and network worked fast, but than popped up window about new discovered hardware - network card and question would I like to configure it. Yes I would, give root password, and get network device configuration window. Simple press 'Next' replaced working routing table with one that had only loopback device, and network was shut down. Additional 'rcnetwork restart' did nothing (as expected), and network was still down. Back to network devices, set default gateway and press 'Next' solved problem. IMHO, default gateway should be found by running dhcpcd, so it was not necessary to set anything in network device configuration. -- Regards, Rajko --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I have forgotten that first popped up window saying that another program is using software management. Hmm ... who would be that? Ah, yes. Software updater was running. I finished updates and went back to network device dialog, told to retry and than got network device configuration. This is for sure not obvious for first time users.

When I said perfectly, I mean it. It was so simple, anyone can do it. Click button to start installation, wait until you see message that files are copied, reboot, remove CD, create root password, create user and password, download updates, done. Though, it was virtual machine and empty virtual hard disk, but this kind of installation should be set as a goal. Though, it should provide 'Advanced setup' button/installation option, for those that need to tweak settings. Now, when I have running system, I can add whatever software I like. Thanks Stephan. -- Regards, Rajko --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Ok, I needed to know that before I was going to spend time testing.
Again, apologies if this has already been mentioned before. Moreover, I
haven't had a huge amount of time available to even sit infront of my
laptop.
Testing now, I'll post back here in a few minutes.

Ok, so I tested the latest livecd with my Dell 700m laptop. The system
booted ok, however it spent ages doing the X11 configuration stuff.
When GNOME finally started up, the screen had a resolution of 1280x800
(screen default) but GNOME only used 1024x768.

Additionally, if at all possible having the libmtp package installed on
the CD would be useful especially when bringing the livecd to a computer
shop to test with various Portable Audio Players

This looks very funny :) If you find out, what it is, let me know. It's one more reason though to not push the live cd out as we only change the problems. Originally we wanted to have a new round of live cd to fix known problems and now we get tons of new problems.

You can do your own live CD actually. I would even suggest to do a live USB stick from that config for that use case. This is bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=310208
It currently seems to only affect intel 945GM. There are test packages
in the bug.

I second that. with 1gb sticks unde $10, it's a very good support jdd -- http://www.dodin.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
