There's not any pre-built packages that I'm aware of that will make it work. I managed to get it operating, but it wasn't exactly optimal.

A bit complicated to answer generically a - the kernel has support for the older generation of chips b - there is a udev bug (I've submitted a fix - don't know whether it's in) c - X now has a driver but you need to install the modesetting X driver manually d - configuration has to be done by hand via xrandr HTH Oliver -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It depends - there are two generations of the DisplayLink chipset, the old USB2 chipset(s) [1] and the newer USB3 ones [2]. The DL-1x5 series works fine with the current kernel, out of the box. You must add the new output manually (see "xrandr --help | grep provider"), but thats it. (Tested on 12.3 with Kernel 3.11.x) As far as I know, the DL-3000 series does *not* work. The LT1421 seems to be using one of the old chipsets, so it *should* work. Not good. You should have two providers. How soon after the plugin did you give the xrandr command?
Regards Oliver
Please look into your /var/log/Xorg.0.log - it should mention the UDL framebuffer. Just one guess - do you have xf86-video-modesetting installed? I could never find anything about it in the Xorg. I'm going to attaching it now and reboot to see if anything comes up. I also tried adding a cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-displaylink.conf with Section "Device" Identifier "DisplayLinkDevice" driver "fbdev" Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb1" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "DisplayLinkMonitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "DisplayLinkScreen" Device "DisplayLinkDevice" Monitor "DisplayLinkMonitor" SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1366x768" EndSubSection EndSection I've also tried without this file...!

attaching it now and reboot to see if anything comes up. I also tried adding a cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-displaylink.conf
This should not be necessary. Please post the X log. It indeed looks as if the modesetting driver does not bind to the device. Regards Oliver -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Attached. The display was attached all along, I've had to try it on Windows as a test and works fine (as in it does work). Alejandro,
again - is xf86-video-modesetting installed?
My initial reply had the output. abonilla-w530:~ # rpm -qa | grep modesetting xf86-video-modesetting-0.8.0-3.2.1.x86_64
Whats the output of: $> rpm -qa xf86-video*

I got ahead now. I can see the provider, I got further ahead by using
nouveau and select the
Provider 1: id: 0x2bb cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1
associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
provider. Yet, after choosing
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0
and tried to set it up with
xrandr --output DVI-0 --right-of LVDS-1 --mode 1366x768
or with --auto but I only see black stripes...

I could never get displaylink to work as an extended display with an NVIDIA card. I ended up just running 2 x-sessions, and then using x2x to share themouse and keyboard between them. I just used a second xinitrc, and the following script, fired off manually #!/bin/sh xinit ~/.xinitrc2 -- /usr/bin/X :1 -config xorg.conf.dl -novtswitch -sharevts - audit 0 vt8 & sleep 5 x2x -west -from :0 -to :1 &
