[opensuse-factory] JAVA in FireFox x64 (11.0 OpenSuse)
I thought that this was fixed, at this point, since SUN now has AMD 64 binaries. ... But I, for the life of me cannot figure out how to get JAVA up and running with openSUSE 11.0. I can't follow the steps for 10.3 because the layout of the file system has changed. Why can't I get this running? Ah, I just found the answer, openJDK (I looked on forums, sorry for wasting people's time). At any rate, what is the real story about 64 bit JAVA from Sun, anyway? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

You know this is not a support list for released versions? The sun binaries don't include a browser plugin. Nothing changed here... You basically have these options: - Install 32-bit Firefox + 32-bit Sun Java - Use IcedTea1.7 or openjdk 1.6 which have 64-bit plugins, but don't work with all applets. - Use Konq which can use 64-bit Sun Java without a plugin. - Complain to Sun Microsystems --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I know. I'm sorry. I will refrain from writing here about my woes with released versions. Can you give me a quick link to all the news groups to which I can subscribe? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

https://lists.opensuse.org opensuse@opensuse.org is the general discussion list (in English) for help/support with released version. Hi, you could use the opensuse@opensuse.org or a specialized opensuse-java@opensuse.org The java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin has a 64bit version and works for most of the cases. So install and try it. - Use Konq which can use 64-bit Sun Java without a plugin.
Or Opera. They released a x86-64 version of their browser (Opera 9.5) recently. I've had no luck getting this to work. So if anyone has 64-bit Opera working with 64-bit Java, I'd very much like to know which java version they use, and what path they've told Opera to use for Java. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
.....but Opera 9.5 has other problems. We have just "downgraded" to 9.27 as it was unusable. Follow a link, return and one does not return to the site of the link but the top of the page. That was the main problem. ==John ffitch --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
