AJ> I'm glad to announce openSUSE 10.3 Alpha5. AJ> Important Changes Since Alpha4 AJ> ============================== AJ> [...] AJ> * Emacs 22.1 AJ> [...] I did a few upgrades like listed in Andreas's message on a computer running 10.3 . I was quite intrigued by Emacs 22.1, so I decided to also make use of these (Emacs 22.1 related packages) on a computer running 10.1 (*), but when I tried to also install the updated version of nxml-mode, I got this: [2007-06-15 10:47:02] root@HayekJ # rpm -v --install /usr/local/src/tmp/nxml-mode-20041004-74.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: Mule-UCS conflicts with nxml-mode-20041004-74.noarch Alright, I searched (Google!) the web for this message, and I found something apparently related, saying Mule-UCS and nxml-mode are incompatible. Strange enough, there is no package Mule-UCS on that computer. Anybody any idea how to get rid of that conflict or at least of the message? Yes, I know, upgrading to 10.3 or 10.2 from 10.1 would be a way out, but that is not option on that computer right now. All the best! J. (*) Pls don't tell me, that was very, very unreasonable -- I know that myself. So that's a waste of time right now. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Mule-UCS is now a provides-tag of the main Emacs package.

If you are sure that it is compatible with Emacs 22 (or just want to try it) then you could just force the installation with --force. Robert -- Robert Schiele Dipl.-Wirtsch.informatiker mailto:rschiele@gmail.com "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."

I tried it before, I will try it again: [2007-06-15 16:30:28] root@HayekJ # rpm --force -v --install /usr/local/src/tmp/nxml-mode-20041004-74.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: Mule-UCS conflicts with nxml-mode-20041004-74.noarch Sad, isn't it? Well, I started thinking I am quite a grown-up boy now, so I can rather do some RTFM, and I found "--nodeps", and have a look: [2007-06-15 16:36:03] root@HayekJ # rpm --nodeps -v --install /usr/local/src/tmp/nxml-mode-20041004-74.noarch.rpm Preparing packages for installation... nxml-mode-20041004-74 Thanks anyway. It was quite easy to solve, but I think I never really seriously studied the rpm(1) manual page ... Sad, isn't it?
Well, I started thinking I am quite a grown-up boy now, so I can rather do some RTFM, and I found "--nodeps", and have a look:
Oh, right. I forgot again that --nodeps is not covered by --force although (according to my opinion) people would expect that. --- At least I always do expect that although I have run into that problem now for multiple times already...

Well, but the most interesting question is not answered with that: Does it actually work? I mean forcing the installation was the easier part of the story. The more interesting part is to make it running with the current emacs version. Well, it works with my latin-1 files (which is what I seriously need),
I cannot confirm, that it works with UTF-8 files (and it's not essential to me),
actually I got the impression, it does not, but I don't want to proclaim that.
I will have a look at the nxml-mode mailing list
