Try setting up the iso as a repo (the only active one). Then go to run level 2 or 3 and use zypper dup. This works great if upgrading from an earlier Milestone. Thanks Ken for the insight to another use of zypper. However, I never use a upgrade version. That is because it always leads to left over version files that never get removed. I alway start from a fresh beginning. -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
I decided that I wanted to use DVD r/w media in the future so as to not have to throw away inexpensive DVD write once media. My first attempt failed though using K3B as when I went to erase it and write once again K3B no longer saw the media as writable. I am sure I did something stupid and allowed K3B to fixate the DVD. If so can someone be clear what they think I need to be careful of please. Any comments? Try to erase media first, as a separate operation, not as a part of new write process. If above fails then check permissions on /dev/dvd, but look at real device, usually /dev/sr0 . Both you can do with 'll /dev/dev' , to see where it links, and then 'll /dev/sr0' , if that is device where /dev/dvd points to. If not sure how to interpret results, or they make no sense (look right, but k3b doesn't work anyway), post result of second command here. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I don't think we are dealing with permission problems at all here. I can write successfully. It is just I can't write again to a r/w media erasing the old stuff. Here is the output from your request. ll /dev/dvd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2009-08-22 04:28 /dev/dvd -> sr0 ll /dev/sr0 brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 0 2009-08-22 04:28 /dev/sr0 I did try to erase the media as a separate operation but the choice was grayed out. I also tried brascero and k3b says: "Please insert an empty DVD or Blu-Ray medium". When I have inserted the last recorded r/w media therfore the start button is grayed out. If I click on Format and erase the same as the line above comes up. Is nothing the answer? Try to start k3b from the console, it should give you messages about what it is doing. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
