[opensuse-factory] System-tray icon corruption in KDE4.1
Hi! Is the problem with the system-tray icons being garbled in KDE 4.1 expected to persist through the final release of 11.1? I believe this is an upstream problem, but with the new system-tray (already a part of Beta5 that has now added the feature for hiding icons) one would have expected them to be gone. That however is not the case yet. It really spoils the appearance of the (otherwise nice) KDE 4.1 desktop. -- Atri -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Atri, I don't know, but I can confirm strange behavior of the icon bundle (the icons for systray apps). It looks like the icons are not really connected to the panel. With the kicker panel set to autohide, the panel will hide, but leave the systray icons floating alone on the desktop for nearly a second before they disappear. So it is easy to imagine them getting fouled up. On my B5 install, they haven't corrupted yet, but do show the delay on hide. -- David C. Interesting. I don't have such behaviour on the installations of 4.1 in either 11.0 or 11.1Beta5. Ciao. -- Understanding only begins with the act of perception. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I do. On fresh install, when it will generate .kde and .kde4 directories, kicker is at the bottom, and when I move kicker on right side of the wide screen, than back to bottom, I get icons with active programs on left side of the screen, in barely visible frame, while the rest of the kicker is back to bottom. I can right click on that barely visible frame, get drop down menu and remove it, but I can't convince it to go back to kicker. Actually problem is that I have no control over that part of the panel, and that is the reason I moved it back to bottom, to provoke some recalculation of positions, with hope that will fix the problem. Moving kicker back to any side, right or left, has no influence anymore. When I copy last working backup of .kde and .kde4, there is no problems with kicker, but icons that once were contained in the Folder View widget, are all over the desktop, so it seems to be a new desktop configuration problem. Hmm. I guess this is worth bug report. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Basil, I bet it is happening, but your just not catching it. It took me three tries with ksnapshot to catch the behavior, but a picture is worth 1000 words. http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_11.1/kicker-floating-systray.jp... -- David C. OK, I see what you are talking about but, as I already stated, I don't have this occurring. I did notice, however, that the whole task/quicklaunch bar is very squashed up. Did you "fiddle" with its settings and push its size down too far? (Fiddling also with the panel alignment may be contributing to this behaviour.) I set it to a size of 40 like the default for kde3 and decreased the icon size to small. I had to reset it to something. I accidentally grabbed the wrong place while the taskbar setting were open and it covered nearly half the screen ;-) That almost rivaled the time I clicked "delete this panel" instead of "delete this icon"... They really ought to move those two farther apart. -- David C. I am starting to wonder if we are talking about the same thing. I don't remember having the option of setting anything to "40".
like the default for kde3 and decreased the icon size to small.
The only place where I know that one can alter the icon size is in Desktop Configuration>Icons>Advanced where one alters the size of the icons on the Desktop (just like in KDE3). The icons on the taskbar are adjusted differently as far as I am concerned. (See also next point.)

If you right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar a menu shows up; select Panel Settings and another 'taskbar' appears; in the middle of this bar is a box named 'Height'. If you left-click and hold on this box you can then move the whole bar up or down -- and as you do so you will find that it either squashes or makes bigger (in height) the taskbar. In my earlier msg I stated that your taskbar looked too squashed; perhaps you should try and 'unsquash' it a bit to see if that problem of yours disappears. Also, when the second bar appears at the extreme right hand there is an item called More Settings. Here you can set the taskbar to autohide (just like in KDE3). One other thing. By default there are 4 Desktop icons in the taskbar and they are in two rows - which I find annoying. If you right-click inside any one of the desktop icons and select Pager Settings you get the choice to select how many Rows are to be used for the icons. I always select 1x Row which makes the taskbar lower in height.
That almost rivaled the time I clicked "delete this panel" instead of "delete this icon"... They really ought to move those two farther apart.
Nah, that would make it less fun and it would produce less complaints/bug reports which would make the developers feel unwanted. Yes, you got it: <quote> Desktop Configuration>Icons>Advanced for the icons,</quote> then <quote> Panel Settings and another 'taskbar' appears; in the middle of this bar is a box named 'Height'. If you left-click and hold on this </quote><snip> and you see the pixel height number read-out while you move the height up and down with the mouse and I let go when it got to 40 ;-) -- David C. Good god! I've never noticed this feature. In any case, the pixels here are 22 in height. Ciao. -- Understanding only begins with the act of perception. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
