Hello, I have just installed 10.1alpha 4 and can not get networking to work. This has worked in all previous versions. Network card is :Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mbits/sec) LAN subsystem using the Marvell* Yukon* 88E8050 PCI Express* Gigabit Ethernet Controller The sysKonnect driver is supposed to work with it, but no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Daryl

The sysKonnect driver is supposed to work with it, but no joy. what's the output from lsmod | grep sysKonnect ?
lsmod|grep sysKonnect returned nothing (can provide full lsmod)
ifconfig ?
ifconfig lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:54 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:54 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:3794 (3.7 Kb) TX bytes:3794 (3.7 Kb)
ethtool eth0 ?
linux:/home/dcreedy # ethtool eth0 Settings for eth0: Cannot get device settings: No such device Cannot get wake-on-lan settings: No such device Cannot get message level: No such device Cannot get link status: No such device No data available
ip r l ?
linux:/home/dcreedy # ip r l 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link
cat /etc/resolv.conf ?
resolv.conf is not applicable as basic TCP/IP is not woking Takes a bit as I have to reboot between XP and suse to get info and send Daryl

linux:/home/dcreedy # ethtool eth0 try again
linux:/home/dcreedy # ip r l 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link ip route add default via your.gateway.ip then try again
resolv.conf is not applicable as basic TCP/IP is not woking why not? I can put my network interfaces offline and I can still see what's in my /etc/resolv.conf If your resolv.conf is empty fill it with your details echo "nameserver x.x.x.x" > /etc/resolv.conf echo "nameserver y.y.y.y" >> /etc/resolv.conf echo "search yourdomain.com" >> /etc/resolv.conf

Sorry, better?, do you type above everytime you reply?
lsmod|grep sysKonnect returned nothing (can provide full lsmod) modprobe sysKonnect
module sysKonnect not found, tried all variations of case
ifconfig lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:54 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:54 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:3794 (3.7 Kb) TX bytes:3794 (3.7 Kb) ifconfig ethX ip.address netmask up
invalid interface eth0 not found, tried eth1 also
linux:/home/dcreedy # ethtool eth0 try again
same result
linux:/home/dcreedy # ip r l 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link ip route add default via your.gateway.ip then try again
with no ethernet default gateway kinda useless
resolv.conf is not applicable as basic TCP/IP is not woking why not? I can put my network interfaces offline and I can still see what's in my /etc/resolv.conf If your resolv.conf is empty fill it with your details echo "nameserver x.x.x.x" > /etc/resolv.conf echo "nameserver y.y.y.y" >> /etc/resolv.conf echo "search yourdomain.com" >> /etc/resolv.conf
cant ping next hop, so there is no need to verify DNS name resolution at this time Thanks for the help Daryl Creedy

No. Almost nobody does, but uses a good mail client which does it automatically. I'm sorry to tell you that "a good mail client" means (nearly) everything except outlook ;-) If you need to mail in Windows, try Thunderbird. For Linux, I would recommend KMail (the best one for me, no flamewars please ;-) or also Thunderbird. You can also try Evolution, but it looks too outlook-like IMHO ;-) This list is not meant to be complete - just check your SUSE installation for mail clients. *SCNR* Regards, Christian Boltz -- What's about the flash plugin, there a licence agreement is displayed when installing (that's a good thing, not installing flash plugin makes web useable again ;-) ). Ok, so sk98lin loads as shown in lsmod below however no ethernet ports
exist except for lo
info shown below:
linux:/etc # modinfo sk98lin

/lib/modules/2.6.15-rc5-git3-2-smp/kernel/drivers/net/sk98lin/sk98lin.ko

It is already in the headers, so what's the problem? Of course his "introductory line" is actually a couple of lines... OJ -- Computers are like air conditioners. They stop working properly if you open windows.
