[opensuse-factory] Acer 5520 laptop & Synaptiks - openSUSE 12.1
Installed 12.1b1 from x86_64 live cd and synaptiks was not included. I think coolo added it to default installs post 12.1beta
but it does not work or I don't know how to enable/configure it properly.
You have to manually start the tray icon. Additionally I had a problem where I also had to manually make it visible in tray settings - when set to "auto" it was hidden for me.

I think coolo added it to default installs post 12.1beta No, I added it before beta and removed it again - it's too big for the live cd.
Greetings, Stephan

the tray icon is there, hidden, but synaptiks does nothing for me. I still have to use the buttons on the pad to select/activate....

maybe, but in addition to no scroll regions, I have no selection capability, tapping.... Before the install of synaptiks, I did have the ability to move the pointer. I did "udevadm info ...." and also see the touchpad reported as a ps/2 mouse. should I append the bugreport? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Do you also have those problem if you stop using the "disable if mouse plugged" feature? ... when the machine thinks the touchpad is a ps/2 mouse that setting seems to get a little crazy. And it seems most - if not all - touchpdads are seens as ps/2 mice. I made a bugreport about tapping being disabled by default: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722457 Tapping was disabled by default in X for a long time, iirc because it suits gnome for some strange reason. But it was "fixed" via synaptiks default settings on 11.4. But it seems that's not a viable method for 12.1. So we're in trouble. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

synaptiks basically doesn't function at all for me unless I enable the "disable" function and then the touchpad is completely unusable. It appears that the *only* function synaptiks provides for me is that "disable" function.

I have no tapping or scroll-region. The touchpad is functional as a mouse, but only as a mouse. It will move the pointer and the buttons work, but as a mouse. With/without synaptiks. ps: this is an extra box that is *only* for testing 12.1. tks, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

tks, Synaptiks was never useful. Fortunately for me, I have tap and normal scrolling that work. Would have loved to be able to turn off tap click, or disable touchpad while typing. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
