[opensuse-factory] following bugzilla
Hello, I would like to help debugging through bugzilla. I'm not a programmer, but I install many openSUSE and have many installed version (both VirtualBox and real hardware), so I sometime can help testing. I subscribe to the opensuse-bug list, but this one a a bit overhelming, too much traffic. I would like to follow at first only the news bugs, to see if I can help on them. I could filter by "NEW" flag, but then I will filter out also my own reported bugs. using filters this way looks a bit difficult (even if probably possible). That said, I noticed the "email preference" in my bugzilla user prefs. I see a "QA test" column. Is this a developper assignment or is this a group open to simple testers? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi jdd I use a separate address for the entire list, my personal address is only copied on bugs I'm CC-subscribed to. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.8°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

yes, probably the better choice for now. that said similar option in bugzilla preferences could make this more attractive for advanced users thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The list is tremendous! 552 in 2 days... I have to unsubscribe because it is way too much mail.. my main concern is the fact that no mention is made for which version of what distro these bugs are. The way it is now, is almost impossible to screen, if one doesn't have the first report.. Would it be difficult to implement the possibility to select from the bugzilla list only one or two specific versions to be subscribed on? fi: oS 11.3 and/or 11.4, or 11.5? If this would be possible, other distros that use the bugzilla would be beneficial also.. (but maybe this goes too far for now...) -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) Have a look at the mail headers - they contain several X-Bugzilla-* headers that can be used for filtering the mails. If you are more interested in *new* bugs, there might be another way: 1) use my search "new bugs (-3d)" or "new bugs (-7d)" which will give you new openSUSE bugreports from the last 3 or 7 days. These searches are available in bugzilla under Preferences - Saved searches. (This also implies that you have to check bugzilla every 3 or 7 days at least.) 2a) add yourself to the CC of bugs that are interesting to you - or - 2b) mark bugs interesting for you with a tag in bugzilla using the "named tag" bar at the bugzilla footer. You'll then get this tag as search in the footer. This is my current way to monitor various bugs - the list of bugs I tagged with "watchlist" is quite long... (Hint: sorting your bugzilla list by "last changed" is recommended to make this method useful.) Regards, Christian Boltz --

If a followup is sent on an existing bug, there is no mention of version and distro the bug is filed against. This means, one has to click the link in the mail, to go to the bugzilla, to find out about this. With 200+ mails a day this is a rather large task. Certainly at the start. this is the bugzilla itself you are talking about, which is correct, and i've been using this effective method already some time ago.. (until other things took my attention, and i only have 24 hours in a day as everybody, but a very limited amount of hours can be used for other things than are necessary to keep everything on track here.)
2a) add yourself to the CC of bugs that are interesting to you
This is the preferable way to stay 'in touch' with the bugchanges, i agree.

2b) mark bugs interesting for you with a tag in bugzilla using the "named tag" bar at the bugzilla footer. You'll then get this tag as search in the footer. (Hint: sorting your bugzilla list by "last changed" is recommended to make this method useful.) Indeed.....you are right. You need to be 'in' the bugzilla to track. Following the bugs from the bugmailinglist is not the way to 'watch' or help solving bugs..

It is not easy to make a good bugreport, especialy the subject line is difficult. Just few ppl use the version number and distro in their subjectline. How difficult would it be (if necessary at all) to add distro and version automaticly to the subject line of the report of which the mail is going to be sent? Something like: [Bug 677425][openSUSE][11.4] `zypper dup` remove liblzma This would ease the search in mailinglist mail a lot. Just an idea, nothing more... -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) If you have an email client that allows this (like Thunderbird or SeaMonkey - at least I hear from some people they do stuff like that), you can make it display the X-Bugzilla-Product header, for example, which does show you e.g. "openSUSE 11.4" - it's right there in the "bugmail", just that it's in a header and not the mail body. It is indeed very simpel to reduce the amount of mail considerable with this filter: Total 561 (in 2 days) filter: opensuse: 198 opensuse 11 : 186 opensuse 11.4 : 111 -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) Making changes to the Novell Bugzilla involves a *lot* of inertia, even for internal people. It's shared across the entire Novell product line and there are lot of considerations that go into it that are very complicated and that I'm not sure I entirely understand myself. That said, the process of trying to add features to such a heavy beast has encouraged a few of us to build a prototype bug reporting system for openSUSE that is both more lightweight and more responsive to the needs of the community. It's Bugzilla now, but even that isn't really locked down. It's not far enough along to share yet but one of the big goals is to allow community members to suggest features like these and have them be discussed with a real possibility of implementation. - -Jeff - -- Jeff Mahoney SUSE Labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.16 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAk2CJtMACgkQLPWxlyuTD7IbwgCbBaHox2b4qSF1TsKPkki92q+Z pgIAoIdfC7nJLpJ7Lo/GV3qt9Vjy9lYr =t5AK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
