There is a suspicion that there is an issue with the glib main loop here. A patch was just submitted to Factory (currently in staging) Brave people can try to
osc getbinaries GNOME:Factory glib2 openSUSE_Factory x86_64 rpm -Fhv binaries/*.rpm
Would be good to receive some feedback on that upfront - in case this is not the issue, a bug report might be required (if glib fixes it, well, some patiance please, it's on the way) Cheers, Dominique

I performed a zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change and got the packages rebuilt with GCC 7. I also pulled in the packages you referenced above. After a restart and opening a docx file I still get the 100% CPU soffice.bin process. Some data points: - NVidia GTX 1070 video card with NVidia proprietary driver version 375.66 - I do _not_ have an option to use OpenGL in Tools → Options → View, but 'Use hardware acceleration' and 'Use anti-aliasing' are both enabled - disabling the two settings mentioned above and restarting does not get rid of the 100% CPU usage I have also seen the same behaviour on my laptop, a Thinkpad W541 using the iGPU. Seems spot-on: upstream believes it is this issue: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108246 (to finish this off - seems latest factory has it fixed) Cheers, -- Thorsten

I can confirm this in KDE if the checkbos is set: use openGL rendering If I uncheck this box everything works as expected. This is on a Tuxedo intel haswell iris gpu (i7-4770HQ cpu) Note: you can only access this box if you do not have the libreoffice-gtk3 or -gnome rpm installed. What I have installed is libreoffice-kde4 and I wonder if there is a kde5 version in the works. cheers, tomtomme -- fest 040 32536326 mobil 01525 337 1476 Heidebrinker Weg 7 22147 Hamburg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I *cannot* confirm this: I've removed libreoffice-gtk3 and OpenGL was disabled on my system because of former crashes anyway. The CPU still goes up too 100%. Enabling and again disabling OpenGL did not make a difference (despite another crash). Note that the CPU load goes down as long as the modal options dialogue is open. This might be what you observed and is IMHO a good indicator that something's wrong with the glib main loop like Dominique wrote in a former posting in this thread. Ciao, Michael.

Ciao, Michael.
Interesting. I also saw the load going down while I was in the options menu. However on my machine it is still enough to uncheck this box. I just rechecked. The load is not 100% if unchecked wether or not I am in the options menue. -- fest 040 32536326 mobil 01525 337 1476 Heidebrinker Weg 7 22147 Hamburg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
