[opensuse-factory] Can't install nvida or realtek kernel modules with 2.6.25.3-2 kernel
Hi, I cannot install either NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1.run or realtek-linux-audiopack-5.01 with the factory kernel, I've also had no joy with the 2.6.25.2-2 kernel but downgrading to 2.6.24.1-6 again solves the problem and both work. Is this a bug to report or have I missed something. The last part of the failed nvidia installer log is as follows:- /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/scatterlist.h: In function ‘sg_vir t’: /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/scatterlist.h:199: warning: pointer of type ‘void *’ used in arithmetic In file included from /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/ nv/nv-linux.h:109, from /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/ nv/nv-vm.c:14: /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h: In function ‘zero_user_ segments’: /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:134: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:134: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:134: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:134: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:137: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:137: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:137: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.3-2/include/linux/highmem.h:137: warning: pointer of t ype ‘void *’ used in arithmetic /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c: In functio n ‘nv_set_page_attrib_uncached’: /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c:64: warning : ‘change_page_attr’ is deprecated (declared at include2/asm/cacheflush. h:27) /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c: In functio n ‘nv_set_page_attrib_cached’: /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c:79: warning : ‘change_page_attr’ is deprecated (declared at include2/asm/cacheflush. h:27) /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c: In functio n ‘nv_flush_caches’: /tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm.c:364: error: implicit declaration of function ‘global_flush_tlb’ make[4]: *** [/tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nv-vm .o] Error 1 make[3]: *** [_module_/tmp/selfgz26719/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1/usr/src/ nv] Error 2 make[2]: *** [sub-make] Error 2 NVIDIA: left KBUILD. nvidia.ko failed to build! make[1]: *** [module] Error 1 make: *** [module] Error 2 -> Error. Due to some changes in the kernel, you need a new version of the nVidia driver for 2.6.25 - they might not have publicly released one, but in the nVidia Linux forum, you can find a link to a beta version that works fine with current factory (I have been running it for some time now). openSUSE 11.0 Beta2 on my computer was upgraded today to kernel version 2.6.25.3-2 -- which is the kernel the OP is talking about. I compiled the nVidia driver beta 178-03 without a hitch today with this kernel and it works fine (well, I have 3D, but the fps are lousy as per glxgears: ~650 instead of ~3900fps). The patch you are talking about appears to be concerned with kernel 2.6.26 and not the x.25.3-2 being talked about above.
