[opensuse-factory] Milestone 6 boot slowdown
Hi, while starting MS6 I can see that he is looking for something on fd0. During this time the boot process is stopped. It takes a quite long time and is annoying... In /var/log/boot.msg I find this: <3>[ 20.132625] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 <3>[ 32.292363] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 <3>[ 32.292573] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0 <3>[ 44.456384] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 <3>[ 44.456590] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0 <3>[ 56.864374] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 <3>[ 56.864581] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0 Can this be the lines that correspond to the problem? It looks similar as on the screen while boot up, but not the same :-( Unfortunately I don't know where else to look for information... It's certainly the case, it hangs around looking for the non-existent floppy drive. This may be a kernel regression that has reared its head again after it was squashed at least a couple of years ago. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... It could be that floppy is active in BIOS, although there is none installed. I've got such MB. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I do have a floppy in the computer, but no disk inside. What is he looking for? Should he look for that? Karl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The kernel bug as I remembered it, does exactly that with no floppy in the drive. I shall post the problem to the kernel mailing list right away. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... OK, I shall check it next reboot. I haven't looked at the BIOS in months and can't see why it would have changed. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... I lied, it was on in the BIOS, disabling it cured the problem, but it looks like the old problem which if you had a floppy drive installed, you needed to insert a non-bootable formatted floppy to stop this happening. Going back 2 or 3 years, this email address used to be reported as SPAM on the kernel mailing list by the new filter they installed. As my ISP reports a problem nationwide which doesn't allow me to use he alternate email address, I used this one hoping it will let my mail through. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
