[opensuse-factory] Yast trying to install kernel-default
Hi everybody, Lately I observe that zypper and yast try to install (as recommended) kernel-default on my system. I currently run kernel-desktop, at the latest version as published in Factory. How can I find out what tries to pull in kernel-default? "zypper inr" only tells me it wants to install it, but not why. zypper inr --debug-solver creates some nice nifty xml and .gz files, but I seem not able to look for the right things there :) any pointers are appreciated. One of the gz files will contain something like (I checked why evolution- pilot got installed): <recommends> <dep name='gnome-bluetooth' /> <dep name='seahorse' /> <dep name='vino' /> <dep name='dasher' /> <dep name='deskbar-applet' /> <dep name='gnome-user-share' /> <dep name='alacarte' /> <dep name='gftp' /> <dep name='multisync-gui' /> <dep name='evolution-pilot' /> <dep name='libopensync-plugin-file' /> </recommends> So, scrolling up a few lines showed me the culprit. Can you make a tar ball of the directory available? I couldn't find anything directly like this, but then: those packages might provide much more than what I'm just looking for. As the tarball is a bit too large (3.2MB), I uploaded it to my server, where it can be downloaded from: http://opensuse.leuenberger.net/zypper-inr-kernel-default.tar If you think it makes sense, I of course can also create a bnc entry (should it take more than just a minute to figure it out :) ) Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I see that package-lists-openSUSE-X11-cd has a requires on kernel-default but I'm not sure whether that is installed. Yeah, this looks strange. I suggest to file a bugreport, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

I suggest to file a bugreport,
preload recommends preload-kmp and this is provided by preload-kmp-desktop and preload-kmp-default. You have preload-kmp-desktop locked and as such the solver picks kernel-kmp-default, which requires kernel-default. Btw, you can use deptestomatic -v -v solver-test.xml to get some more informations. Stephan, thanks for your reply... It makes perfect sense, except that zypper seems not to agree: 3120-3560:/etc/zypp # zypper ll There are no package locks defined. 3120-3560:/etc/zypp # zypper inr Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... The following NEW packages are going to be installed: kernel-default preload-kmp-default 2 new packages to install. Overall download size: 31.9 MiB. After the operation, additional 128.2 MiB will be used. Continue? Only a guess: Maybe it is not (manually) locked but only soft locked. Have a look at /var/lib/zypp/SoftLocks Christian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Good guess! Thanks. so now comes of course the question: who put it there, with what process and why? and why can't I interface this with zypper? Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

You can. If you remove or add packages, it's added and removed there. E.g. if you install preload-kmp-desktop, it's removed and you have the problem no longer.
