[opensuse-factory] [status report] openSUSE distribution, week 46
Hi! A normal week of development * kernel 2.6.24rc2 in Factory caused quite some problems with KMP modules * gcc 4.3 switched to Factory, roughly 150 packages still need to be fixed * (re)started package lists for CDs to get installation testing, so far some problems with gcc 4.3 and kernel 2.6.24 * worked on roadmaps for alpha releases. Next stop: 11.0 alpha0 to stabilize from the above * worked on updated live CD to fix random bugs and redo it with update packages[1] * some rough discussions where to head with 11.0 (nothing concrete, but the discussions on opensuse-factory are helping to understand) * in terms of registered installations, October 2007 was the most successful openSUSE month ever. It was 60% above the month having had this title so far (March 2007). I forgot to mention: I only have the KDE CD so far because I'm testing general bugs. Don't worry - if the next round of bugs is fixed, I'll create both and put them in the same dir before release. Yes, x86_64 is backward-compatible. x86_64 hardware runs them too. And we do not have any plans to support a x86_64 native live cd (which also means that installed live cds are i686 only). Can you tell us some concrete numbers, please? (60% more could mean 10 -> 16, but also a million -> 1.6 million ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- Warning: Sleeping Sigmonster! I intentionally left some room for phantasy - none of your choices are correct though :) I hear since months that we're going to publish these numbers and only look for a good way how to filter them. The problem is that these statistics are out of a hacked script out of log files that some server is generating and no-one really knows how accurate they are. I'm very sure the trend is correct, but I'm not going to spread numbers I can't trust. Of course I'm fine if marketing does ;-) Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
