[opensuse-factory] KFind does not have its own icon in Application Menu
Hi, everyone! KFind (https://www.kde.org/applications/utilities/kfind/) is not part of openSUSE's KDE default installation. So, I manually installed it using # zypper in kfind Right now, I'm using openSUSE Leap 42.2 RC 2 with Plasma 5.8.2. Sometimes I use KFind, especially when I want to discover where KDE stores its settings. (Here goes a tip in case someone needs it someday) I change a setting (e.g. using System Settings), apply it, then I use KFind to look for files in my home folder, including hidden ones, changed within the last minute. It always finds a text file containing that setting I just changed. Dolphin's Ctrl + F does not have that granularity of search options. I realized KFind does not have an icon for it in the Application Menu. I need to use KRunner (Alt + F2) to launch it. Prior versions of KDE had an icon for KFind. Is that intentional? Or there should be an icon for KFind in Application Menu? Moreover, I've seen Stephan Kulow is one of the KFind maintainers. Are coolo _at_ kde.org and coolo _at_ suse.de the same person? If yes, congratulations, man, for the good work! Sorry, my fault. Actually, KFind is available in Application Menu >
System > Find Files/Folders. But I realized it only a few days after
installing KFind, the icon did not show up immediately after
installation.
Maybe Plasma takes some time to update the Application Menu.

KDE has an on-disk cache for the application menu entries, to not have to go through all .desktop files on your system when you open the application menu (that's the reason why it opens instantly even if you click on it the first time) .e.g. It should get updated automatically when new/modified .desktop files are detected (in /usr/share/applications/ e.g.). You can force it to be regenerated immediately by running "kbuildsycoca5" (as user). Even better, use the correct macro in the spec file of the RPM to update the cache. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I wouldn't see kbuildsyscoca5 running for each app installed we're going to scroll down every installation, especially TW one when thousand of packages get updated. A global flag that run an action at this end of the installation bunch yeap we not if not already the case. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch Bareos Partner, openSUSE Member, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

And which macro? There is none. Actually it's impossible to update that cache during package installation, as it is per user. As mentioned, it should be updated/refreshed automatically though anyway. They won't touch the users' KDE cache, and cannot. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Stephan Kulow did much more than just KFind. He was one of the primary authors of the KDE desktop since the early KDE 1 days. And yes, same person. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
