[opensuse-factory] problem updating glibc from factory
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all: I update/upgrade my system with smart. Now I have this glibc version: glibc-2.4.90-13 and if I try upgrade it smart not found anything to do it. Well,I see the directory http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source... where there are the file glibc-2.4.90-20.i586.rpm and my question is: why smart doesn't detect this ? My smart channel for factory is: [suse-OSS-factory] name = SUSE OpenSource SL-OSS-factory baseurl = http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source type = yast2 mirror = http://ftp.belnet.be/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/SL- OSS-factory/inst-source mirror = http://opensuse.mirrors.skynet.be/pub/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distrib ution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source mirror = ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory /inst-source mirror = ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst - -source mirror = http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distri bution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source mirror = ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/ inst-source Must I change this? Because it uses the metadata, not the actual content of the factory tree in order to find the packages, and your metadata are outdated. Updating the metadata using the command smart update should help. If not, it might be caused by your mirror setup. You have many mirrors, some of them might be outdated, and smart picks one of the outdated mirrors because the outdated ones are for obvious reasons faster than the up2date ones. Solution: Delete the mirrors and use this URL instead: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source It's a redirector that points to up2date mirrors only. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It's a redirector that points to up2date mirrors only. Hi Andreas and thank you. I delete /var/lib/smart/channels contents and upgrade --update again. Now it works... I will change also channel file without mirrors. Regards

OK, then re-add the mirror definitions again and live with the fact that they are not always up2date. ;-) Having both fast and up2date mirrors isn't possible - the up2date ones are punished for being up2date in the sense that many people are using them, and that makes them slow.
