[opensuse-factory] installing fglrx 8.29.6
Has anyone successfully installed the new ati driver fglrx 8.29.6? After the failure with the last ati driver, 8.28.8, I tried to install the driver released today. After issuing the command sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx sax2 starts it's own xserver, but does not display any window. With the command aticonfig --initial I was able to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that the fglrx driver is used. After a restart the boot process stops right before the kdm logon screen should be displayed. The logfile /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not show anything unusual. -- Gruß Andreas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Not until now.

Which version of SUSE / openSUSE are you using ? 10.0, 10.1, 10.2alpha4? They are using different versions of Xorg. -- Never give up ! Best regards, Reinhard. "Software is like a parachute. I am using openSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4. There is a bugreport about other issues rendering the driver pretty much useless at [https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=198125]. Afaik ATI does not even mention the bug or if they are/were was attempting to fix it. -- Gruß Andreas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

With SUSE100-IA32 I haven't got any problem to upgrade to fglrx 8.29.6. OpenGL apps like GoogleEarth or the FGLRX test app "fgl_glxgears" are running fine. -- Never give up ! Best regards, Reinhard. that's some strange stuff. I can't get them to work at all, and no error messages, just an infinitely stalling X server. I might just wait to the next Alpha release next month and see if it goes any better. Oh, and I tried the rpm-approach: Downloaded the driver, made an rpm with "--buildpkg", installed it and finally ran sax2 (and when it didn't work, tried "aticonfig --initial"). -- Gruß Andreas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Installing the driver: yes Working with it: nope (see latest comments at http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=478 and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=198125 ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It's kinda weird that the driver works well with fedora core 6 (test 3). Fedora is using a different X11 version though. The logs show: "X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1.1" Whereas the log in openSUSE shows: "X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1". Maybe that is the culprit? -- Gruß Andreas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
