[opensuse-factory] pushing openldap2 2.4.45 to Factory
HI! I'd like to postpone Jan's libldap_r symlink change to openldap2 package and push OpenLDAP upstream release 2.4.45 plus a small patch to Factory. While I agree that Jan's changes are desirable in the long run some detail lets zypper dup report update conflicts which are not easily resolvable. There might be solution for this but during the last days no progress was made and it blocks getting OpenLDAP upstream release out of the door. Therefore I've submitted this request trying my best to merge others' work: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/509862 I've successfully tested this on openSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64. Any objections? Ciao, Michael.

...which is by design. A library is being dropped here. There are hundreds of packages in openSUSE:Factory but NOT in network:ldap which have to be rebuilt first - which requires that 508096 proceeds.
Any objections?
Yes, in https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/501631, dimstar wants "to actually not produce libldap-2.4.so.2 AT ALL". The latest SR to openldap2 finally implemented that. But then someone rejected it because they wrongly read the situation and then failed to answer when called out. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

In other words, what you wanted/shouldhavedone is zypper dup -r (openSUSE:Factory:Staging:X) not zypper dup -r (network:ldap) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

My request is not meant as final decision about your changes. It's just about changing order/priority of changes. Ciao, Michael.

I know that. My point is that everything would have been fine with the SR that was posted. Now another one is posted. In the end, there will have been more time spent on 2.4.45 than without 509862. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

But your change is more intrusive than 2.4.45 update. It's also my understanding that it makes the RPMs produced in network:ldap / openldap2 unusable for the older platforms (SLE, Leap). Hence I keep proposing to first let https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/509862 go through. Ciao, Michael.

You could work around that by adding another package which re-Provides: the "libldap-2.4.so.2()(64bit)" identity again together with the symlink. After all, exactly that is what the current openldap2 has implemented (but which is not enough to trigger rebuilds in TW). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

the 'current' package has no symlink from libldap-2_4 to libldap_r-2.4; that never made it out of the devel prj, as installation-images does not follow symlinks while creating its rootfs (and as the course is so unclear here, I also don't think it should start doing so to accomodate this weird package changes in openldap) Cheers, Dominique

"wants" ? I wrote "I'd recommend" - and you seemed to agree Cheers, Dominique

Then - create one. You do have the permissions, I don't. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
