[opensuse-factory] GRUB VGA values passed to desktop; terrible performance and no way to change except with GRUB
After updating a fresh install of RC2 KDE, the resolution was completely wrong giving me a 600x800 desktop at 16bit color. I changed the VGA value in GRUB to reflect my actual resolution and a 24 bit color depth. This corrects the resolution and color, but the performance is terrible even with compositing off or in XFCE. Not to mention that setting breaks the bootsplash (sad face). I don't really even know where to start on this bug since it is so odd. I think perhaps systemd got patched and is now passing the GRUB value through all of userland. I'm going to do a little more fiddling with it, but I doubt I'll find anything additional. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If you actually want useful help, we need to know what gfxchip (VGA line) lspci reports, and the output of 'cat /proc/cmdline' at a minimum. If something created /etc/X11/xorg.conf, we need to know what's in it too. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Sounds like the VESA video driver is in use. Have a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
