I installed openSUSE 11.1 on a Dell D820 which has an NVIDIA 110 card and installed Compiz (from the CD, then upgraded using the X11:/XORG: repository) and every time I start it using:
compiz-manager --replace --indirect-rendering --loose-binding & or compiz-manager --replace --indirect-rendering &
The rendering is as slow as can be.. here is my xorg.conf
<snip>
Maybe I should include that i'm running Kernel 2.6.30 (from the factory repository) and it was compiled with gcc 4.4 (which the nvidia driver yelled about when I installed it, but i just said "no" to that error to ignore it, I've had that before and all worked just fine).
I'm going to try upgrading to compiz in factory (i'm crazy).
Ben, I start compiz with fusion-icon which results in the command line being: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering & The 2.6.30 kernel should work fine. I am running in on Archlinx with nvidia and compiz 8 and it all works great. I'll have to put my 11.1 drive back in my box and update and give it a try. The xorg I run 10.3, 11.0 11.1 and with Archlinux is: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/linux/nvidia/xorg.conf.8800GT.AcerLCD I haven't had to make any changes to it to accommodate the newer kernel. (Only changes between distros is the font file path informaton) Looking at your xorg, I'm not familiar with the following from the Screen section (shouldn't make any difference, but you never know) Option "RenderAccel" "True" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" The only other issue I see is "Where is your DRI Section? Section "DRI" Group "video" Mode 0660 EndSection Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for DRI messages. It should be enabled by default, but check to make sure. If it isn't, just add the DRI section above. Compiz is running great here, just the little quirk with kicker ( newly renamed plasmoid panel for some important reason) getting stuck on kde43 B1&2. Compiz 8 is great. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
