[opensuse-factory] Significan regression in Yast speed since 11.4
Hi! When I first updated the system to 11.4 I was very much impressed with Yast package manager speed compared to 11.3. But after later updates the speed decreased very much. Now Yast on my 12.1 desktop works many times slower than on my 11.4 laptop! Yast2 in 11.4 is exceptionally fast. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

What is your reference point? What is actually slow? Launching the package manager itself? Loading repos? Are you loading the exact same repositories? Same hardware? Same internet connection? There are so many factors here that can influence things... a simple timeout on one of the configured repos can make the package manager appear slow... so can a hard drive with hardware issues. Mine (in 12.1) is really fast... I haven't tested it on this same machine with 12.2 yet. Not that is really shows a lot, but: time package-manager yast real 0m5.669s user 0m0.124s sys 0m0.047s (this is with a good chunk of the community repos added as well) C. -- openSUSE 12.1 x86_64, KDE 4.8.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Updating repos, AND loading package manager after repos update.
Are you loading the exact same repositories?
Yes.
Same hardware?
12.1 system is Core 2 Duo 3 GHz desktop, 11.4 system is 2 GHz laptop. On the desktop when it was running 11.4 the update also was very fast.
Same internet connection?
11.4 Laptop uses wi-fi, 12.1 desktop uses cable, the both connected to the same access point. The connection speed in 20 Mbit/s, verified with Speed Test to be 97% accurate.
