[opensuse-factory] RFC: openSUSE Leap 42.2 Beta3 released
Hi, tl;dr 42.2 Beta 3 is on the mirrors, get it from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ The last beta version of 42.2 brings us Plasma 5.8.0¹ which means we should be feature complete on the desktops. If you haven't done so, please test drive 42.2 now. As usual please report bugs via bugzilla². Make sure to check the most annoying bugs list³. As we are getting closer to the release it's also about time to start polishing the wiki. The 42.2 portal⁴ looks rather poor still. It's a wiki so just go ahead to bring the 42.2 pages in shape. You may want to join the opensuse-marketing list⁵ to coordinate the marketing related content. The next milestone will be RC1. So please refrain from submitting non-bugfix changes to Leap now. Submission deadline for RC1 is next week, October 13⁶. cu Ludwig [1] https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.8.0.php [2] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports [3] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_42.2_dev [4] https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:42.2 [5] https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/ [6] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I had filed a GitHub issue to get a 42.2 Docker image built [1] but while the project/package has been created now, it is still broken for lack of sources. Wouldn't know where to file a Bugzilla for that, so if you know whom to poke for that, please do. Would be handy to play with the userspace on existing installations. Makes probably sense, as the GUI freezes after a zypper dup from 42.2b2 https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1001660 Killing the X-session (CRTL-ALT-Backspace) brings back the login screen and allows reboot Cheers Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Should recommend reboot, the kernel was changed. But it doesn't:
Recommending reboot is normally specified through the maintenance / update channels, as updates are still being added through the main repo's (Similar to tumbleweed), the fact that reboot wasn't recommended is probably not a issue to worry about (Hopefully people testing Linux Beta's are smart enough to know they should reboot for there new kernel). -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adeliade Australia, UTC+9:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

Same issue here after a zypper dup from Beta 2 +Plasma. In YaST I can see that kernel installed is 4.4.22-1 version, but If I check that with uname -a or Kinfo that showed the 4.4.21-2 http://susepaste.org/14248742 And yes I reboot many times! :) I miss something? -- ------------------- GPG Key: 0xcc742e8dc9b7e22a Aprende a proteger la privacidad de tu correo: https://emailselfdefense.fsf.org/es/ Mi blog sobre openSUSE, GNU/Linux y software libre: https://victorhckinthefreeworld.wordpress.com/

I usually don't upgrade but make a fresh install. That is not a bad approach but keep in mind that openqa.opensuse.org tests a lot of installation tests and only a few upgrade tests and these are on rather "clean" systems. What can hardly be tested is whatever users did previously to their system, configure it, install stuff, change it and *then* upgrade. Yesterday I installed Beta 3 on my computer (AMD Phenom 2 955- Gigabyte GM880-USB3- 12 GB RAM with 2 hard disks) The installation program worked fine until the installation of Grub, which failed. The hard disks are: /dev/sda1 root of Leap 42.1 /dev/sda2 /data /dev/sda3 /windows /dev/sda4 swap /dev/sdb1 new root of Leap 42.2 (was the root opensuse 13.2) /dev/sdb2 /home The system started with root of Leap 42.1, and reinstalled the grub with the Yast of it, but leaved as default start root of Leap 42.1, and all worked fine. I could'nt find any log with the fail of the grub installer to file a bug. The other detail, I could'nt find the Packman repo por root of Leap 42.2. What Packman repo must to use for root of Leap 42.2? Other repo I could'nt find was the fglrx repo for Leap 42.2. For me the most important fail, is I colud'nt hear my favorite music, not with Amarok, not with Dragon Player. Then I installed my favorite player qmmp (similar to the old xmms), but it only "see" about 20 mp3 files, from a total of about 11.000 mp3 files. Later I installed xmms2, but it don't starts. Now I reed, it was not clear! Sorry! That's correct behavior. 42.1 is unaware of anything you installed later until you reconfigure bootloader in it.
