Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer. If I was, I would have fixed it by now. However, if anyone needs a tester I will help out. Cheers! Can you give an estimation whats broken and how long it will take it to fix it ? Depending on the answer, I might give it a try. Christof -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It hasn't been functioning for years and nobody is working on it. Why is it included? It's embarrassing to explain to an interested group of users or worse -- in a magazine review why it's in Yast. I think it should be removed until it is fixed. Yes? Cheers! Roman ----------------------------------------------------- openSUSE -- Get it! Discover it! Some time ago Pascal told me that they were moving (or updating?) the service so it didn't work. I haven't received any update since that. Pascal, what's the plan? Will be the webpin search ready at 12.2 release time? If not I'll remove it from Yast not to confuse users... I have an older bugzilla about this unfortunate misfeature: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=723648 I don't think that dropping search capabilites is a wise move. I would really like to see this feature as part of zypper. Just like
apt-file is an extension to apt-cache etc, why not have a db in
the repo dir of each repo that contains the file list. Allow on a per
repo basis the download of the file db. Of course it wouldn't be a
pure file list but somehting like
rpm, full filename, filetype, and maybe more stuff that can be found in
ls -l output.
Ciao

I have an older bugzilla about this unfortunate misfeature: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=723648
I have a newer one (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=761075), but I'm waiting for Pascal's answer there. (And actually it could be marked as a duplicated of the bug above.) There are basically these solutions for the yast webpin search: 1) keep it as it is now if api.opensuse-community.org is back soon 2) just remove the icon from Yast control panel (once the server is back you can still start it manually via "yast2 webpin_package_search" without any other change) 3) completely remove the module (we will need to put the code back later when webpin works again, but on the other hand the yast package won't contain any dead code and it could be slightly smaller) So it depends what answer I get. (If get no feedback I'll choose the second solution.)
I don't think that dropping search capabilites is a wise move. Implementing a proper search engine would be much more appreciated.
Yes, but if it doesn't work at all it should be removed to not confuse users. -- Ladislav Slezák Appliance department / YaST Developer Lihovarská 1060/12 190 00 Prague 9 / Czech Republic tel: +420 284 028 960 lslezak@suse.com SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I agree on the third option. It's a cleaner move to remove the old code and then put in a newer code when it's been tested and working. Cheers!
