[opensuse-factory] OBS repository question
In OBS, what is the difference between "openSUSE Leap 42.2" and "openSUSE Leap 42.2 Ports"? -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

See for yourself: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Leap:42.2:Ports :42.2:Ports has 111 packages not inherited from :42.2. Most of those are related to the DVDs and Kiwi images, or to build constraints. :42.2:Ports has not been locked, unlike :42.2. It also has additional project config settings: https://build.opensuse.org/project/prjconf/openSUSE:Leap:42.2:Ports If you look at the project meta, the :42.2:Ports "ports" repo is a rebuild of all linked :42.2 "standard" repo packages, i.e. independent of the :42.2 "ports" repo (which has less architectures). To add to the confusion, the :42.2:Update "ports" repo builds against :42.2:Ports. Thanks for the description. I wonder why the descriptor 'Ports' is used. In what sense are there 'Ports'? In fact, given that 111 packages are not from 42.2, I wonder why it is called 42.2 anything. My next question: who would be using the repository? I would imagine it is not intended as an update path for 42.2. It must have some other reason for existing... -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The basic idea is that the standard 42.2 repository is for "main" (or official) architectures while "Ports" is meant for other architectures (i.e. porting the distribution to other architectures). I do use the aarch64 on a Raspberry Pi3 that I am playing with. I think I just left the repos it installed as they were. Time to take a look... -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
