[opensuse-factory] new UI in yast2-printer
Hi people, I'd like to announce improved (I hope ;-)) UI in yast2-printer module. You probably know old interface. Many options was accessible via several clicks and for new users some of them wasn't easy to understand. I wrote some screenshots here: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Printer and now is mostly implemented in yast2-printer version >= 2.16.4 So this mail is a "call for testing", but also your comments or other kind of feedback is important for me. When you check rpm from factory does it work for you with all functionality? Do you like this UI or would you like to change something? But looking at http://files.opensuse.org/opensuse/en/3/3c/Printer_module03.png I am wondering how to use the "reset to default"?
Why is it a radiobox? I would expect a button ... greetings Felix Möller --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Ah, in fact this one tab is not implemented yet ;-) Instead of it there is "CUPS server" configuration dialog, but in future it will be changed. This new tab will be probably compatible with similar CUPS webinterface page (sorry, can't find screenshot) On that screenshot you can't see usual "Finish" button which write all configuration. Also when you leave tab or press "Edit cupsd.conf", any change is write into memory. Bye, Michal P.S.: Now I see typo in "Comfiguration" ;-) -- Best Regards, Michal Zugec Software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SuSE CR, s.r.o. e-mail: mzugec@suse.cz Lihovarska 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Praha 9 fax: +420 296 542 374 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

If you are looking for a "screenshot" of the CUPS webinterface, use http://localhost:631/admin/ and see the "Basic Server Settings:" ;-) Michal, couldn't you use the openSUSE build service to make it available even for openSUSE 10.3 (i.e. so that it matches exactly to the YaST base system in openSUSE 10.3) which could result much more people who like to try it out? if you plan to rewrite the oprinter ui, be aware (if not yet :-) that the options are very criptic - nearly unintelligible. for example, the menu in cups server gives for first choice recommended a choice that prevent using a local printer. Many people have an inkjet copor printer *and* a net laser hardcopy printer, so this option won't work as serching for the server usually don't work (I have seen it work only for a hp jetdirect server, not for any opensuse box!), it's quite confusing. but probably it's just a vocabulary problem... jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Could you be more specific which exact choice you mean?
but probably it's just a vocabulary problem...
I would like to get feedback what your understanding is when you read whatever text which isn't 100% clear to you. If your understanding is wrong, you will likely do a wrong setup. It's partly done, submited in factory, but not build yet. And this is also reason why I rewrote it - to be intuitive as possible and clean to understand.

I see you're right person to test that new design ;-) and comment it when it will be available in factory.

Maybe our CUPS experts can solve that ... Bye, Michal --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I encourage people to test cups-1.3 too. Packages can be found in openSUSE build service (even for older distributions): http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/ and i.e. openSUSE 10.3, i386 are found in: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_10.3/i586/ and new ghostscript versions are there either. :-) Regards, Klaus. -- Klaus Singvogel SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Maxfeldstr. 5 E-Mail: Klaus.Singvogel@SuSE.de 90409 Nuernberg Phone: +49 (0) 911 740530 Germany GnuPG-Key-ID: 1024R/5068792D 1994-06-27 SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
