[opensuse-factory] Contrib: Packages Review
Hi All, There was old topic, but I decided to create a new one, to stay focused. I have a proposal package review - and proposal package review procedure. Example package review: =============================================== "iperf" - IP Performance benchmark Description: Iperf is a tool to measure maximum TCP bandwidth, allowing the tuning of various parameters and UDP characteristics. Iperf reports bandwidth, delay jitter, datagram loss. This package is in OBS. Current maintainer: James Oakley (James also interested in contributing to "contrib" repo, so he may become a package maintainer) Alternative maintainer: me (Alexey Eromenko "Technologov") (if James don't wan't or can't support his child package) URL : http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ URL 2 : http://sourceforge.net/projects/iperf License: custom OSS-compatible, BSD-like (http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ui_license.html) Latest update: v2.0.4 Apr 2008 (which means, that package is maintained) OBS URL: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jimfunk/openSUSE_11.0/src/ Testing: Package received some testing from me. Everything tested found to work. No crashes. =============================================== 1. What do you think of the review process 2. The person who wants to maintain the package should send the request IMHO.
OBS URL: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jimfunk/openSUSE_11.0/src/
If it's you who is going to maintain the package, then it should be in a project where you have access (e.g. your home).

Did you test it on Factory or on 11.0. The later is probably also acceptable, but should be noted. Also, on which architecture did you test? Otherwise I think the request is OK. I haven't looked at the package yet. James is the original creator of the package, but since I also need it, I can co-maintain it. James is listed in our wiki: http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib#Interested_People

In this case, I think I first must ask him if he wants to maintain it (he knows the package better). If not, I will take the job. If he wants, then I'm his backup. (in case if he leaves) It's actually nice concept of having "backup-maintainer". -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I was waiting for all the discussion to die down. :-) I have a number of packages that I'd like to see in contrib.

I tested client mode on i586 and x86_64 in openSUSE10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 11. I have tested server mode on openSUSE 10.1. I seem to remember some problem with the forked server mode, as invoked through the init script I added, but that was a long time ago. I will have to retest that. If it doesn't work , I will deal with it. -- James Oakley jfunk@funktronics.ca --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Perfect :-). I was just wondering why Alexey didn't take one of his packages as example. Michal --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Because this package is more important. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
Since that package ("iperf") didn't get any negative objections, I presume it is OK to include it in "contrib". comments ? -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Have at least the reviewers agreed on http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib/Adding_new_packages ? Right now it's a proposal full of questions.
