[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed / KDE4.8.2
Tumbleweed started to update packages to KDE4.8.2, but this version seems to only partially build. For instance, kdebase4 is only available as a source package for version 4.8.2. Can somebody please check what's going on? I really don't want to wreck my installation with a mixed KDE install if possible. Well, your example shows no x86_64 packages. My listing is quite different, see: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/~pat/zypper.kdebase4.txt My desktop box does quite well with 4.8.2, but my laptop acts as if it was running in syrip :^(. I have reverted to openbox-kde which acts quite well. I don't even know what to report as buggy. Perhaps Greg KH will notice, he reads here. If not tomorrow afternoon I will copy this thread to him direct. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It shouldn't, I'm not running on x86_64. The Tumbleweed repo indeed does not have any 4.8.2 packages for i586 (which, together with i686 and nosrc hasn't got any updates since April 17, the 4.8.2 files in x86_64 are from April 18 onwards), only for x86_64. So it seems these packages either don't build for all architectures or didn't make it to the repo server for whatever reason. Let's wait what Greg says... If you get a crash of the KDE session manager, I too have that on my test machine (I don't think it is related to the latest update, but it seems to be related to KDE 4.8). I can stop service xdm, do an xinit by hand and then start the session manager by hand and have everything work, though. klauncher(10902) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server. kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting! For me it definitely was the update. All was well before, busted afterward. After disabling Tumbleweed and zypper dup, and I'm up again. Tumbleweed had been working just peachy, so maybe the stuck packages Greg mentioned caused my problem. Same problem here. When I kill "kdm", I can start KDE via startx, but other stuff is broken as well: I can't enable the modem USB stick and get this in /var/log/messages: Apr 29 17:53:28 netbook polkitd(authority=local): \ Operator of unix-session:/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session3 \ FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action \ org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.enable-disable-wwan for \ system-bus-name::1.27 [kdeinit4: plasma-desktop [kdeinit]] \ (owned by unix-user:foo) Polkit problem? Does this problem happen if you drop the tumbleweed repo, and enable the KDE 4.8 repo instead? They should be in sync, and I'm not doing anything "special" in Tumbleweed, so the bugs should be the same, if any. I would recommend reporting this on the opensuse-kde mailing list if you continue to have problems so it can get fixed. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Whoops, forgot to mention what that was: selecting "KDE plasma desktop" in kdm's session chooser. Looks like after this update none of the radio buttons was selected. This had also broken auto-login, obviously (which I'm only using on mobile devices with fully encrypted HD, where I'm the only user). m. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Once you login to the plasma desktop. Log out and then look at the menu. It should show "KDE Plasma Workspace (previous)". I always click on the radio button so that it shows a black dot. I don't understand, kdebase4 is built and shows up in the repo directory, as you can see here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Tumbleweed/standard/ Perhaps you are mixing Tumbleweed with other repos? Your system should only have the standard 12.1 (or current) repos, and Tumbleweed in them, otherwise odd things can happen. As I just posted, they are not available for i586 or i686, only for x86_64 unless both the mirror that zypper uses and the website are similarly out of sync.

Ah, are you using 32bit packages? If so, it looks like OBS got stuck and didn't publish everything. Ah, are you using 32bit packages? If so, it looks like OBS got stuck and didn't publish everything. I've tried to restart the stuck packages and hopefully that will cause everything to publish properly in a few hours.
Ok, everything looks like it finally got published, let me know if you continue to have problems or not now. greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Zypper has some 170 more packages to install, so it seems to have hit the mirrors. I'll hold off until tomorrow since there is no way to know if all packages are already visible right now. There really ought to be something like transactions for the mirror updates: if there is a bunch of packages that should be replaced together, they should not be visible or considered installable until they _all_ are available at the mirror (i.e. until the transaction is complete). Once that condition is fulfilled, the usual dependency rules should take over. Trying to install from an incomplete set of packages with sloppy dependencies is about the only thing I've ever had trouble with when doing an update. It found some 20 more packages this morning, I went ahead and started the dup and all is well. greg k-h Hi all,
I am having similar behavior in Appllication:Geo repository. The package netcdf has been updated to version 4.2, the builds succeded but the binaries are not published yet, causing all other packages to hang. Do I just need to restart the package or something else?
