[opensuse-factory] kde43b1 Desktop Eff - Cover Switcher (Went Nuts - Additional Band at Top of Screen)
Devs, After using the Cover Switcher, then Flip Switcher for a while, I switched back to the Cover Switcher and now it looks like I have a combination of the Cover Switcher and Box Switcher even though Cover Switcher is all that is enabled. In the cover switcher, I have Display Window Titles disabled. Can anyone think where to check in the config files to try and find out what is going on? OK, I have this figured out, but it exposes a couple of other problems. (1) Desktop Effects (DE) setting, with the exception of the Animation Delay are not persistent between the times when the effect is enabled, then disabled, then enabled again. What happened here, is I switched to Flip Switcher, then disabled flip and re-enabled Cover and the display window title and the additional thumbnail bar were enabled again magically. (2) I don't know what the "Default" effect "Animation duration" is for the effects (that info is hidden), but they need to be fixed and set to something reasonable so the effects actually look like they are supposed to. For Cover an animation duration of about 250 ms works fine and for flip a duration of 280 ms looks good and still provides crisp response for the DE. Does SuSE set the defaults on the DE or is this another bugs.kde.org issue? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. That is actually a Cover switch feature configurable in its settings.

It doesn't make much sense to have different defaults for such settings, they come from upstream. -- Lubos Lunak KDE developer -------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org Lihovarska 1060/12 tel: +420 284 084 672 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Lubos, Are you saying that there is only "1" animation duration setting? And, when I set it to 250 in Cover and then switch to Flip and set it to 280 it is effecting the same animation duration variable? So when I set it in Flip it is changing the value for Cover as well? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. No, he's saying it doesn't make sense for openSUSE to have different default settings for effects, than upstream KDE. Btw., you realize that the experience may vary a bit with different hardware and drivers etc., so making the settings perfect for you, doesn't necessarily make it perfect for everyone else - or for you, once you install on a different machine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I know it is hardware and driver dependent. But on my laptop, I have fairly middle of the road hardware ATI RS690M [X1200] and the effects were running way too *fast* with the default settings. If I was running on an old AMDK6-2, then the defaults would have worked... I'll put it on the kde list. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
