Re: [opensuse-factory] intel 915 Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0"
Hi Dave
I bet you have a messed up system. Make sure to uninstall any NVIDIA driver RPM (checke with "rpm -qa|grep -i nvidia") and run nvidia-uninstall (afterwards) if you have installed the driver manually (additionally). Then reinstall xorg-x11-server and Mesa. That should help.

I've forwarded this to you in the hope that you can help me to resolve this quickly and I can get on with a blender bug. I maintain blender but I can't get it to run because of this problem. I've experienced this before with my nvidia card which is now broken and I used to fix it by running the nvidia installer. It normally happens after a factory dup not sure which package causes it. Does this warrant a bug report?

Apparently you've still installed the files from various NVIDIA RPMs (although I explained how to get rid of them). Also you might have installed various versions of the official NVIDIA installer, which would be fatal, since I don't know how to get rid of these files any longer when nvidia-uninstall is gone. I'm afraid your system is such a messup now, that you can only reinstall your system. I'm wondering why we still provide these NVIDIA RPMs. It's a lot of work and I don't see any benefit, since apparently nobody is using them anyway. Ah, but you're not providing the latest and greatest fast enough ;-P Seriously though, some people just don't think about the consequences of using the official non-rpm package from NVIDIA. I believe I do.
Seriously though, some people just don't think about the consequences of using the official non-rpm package from NVIDIA.
And some even mix that one with already installed NVIDIA RPMs. What happens is that this installer moves the existing files of the RPMs to some backup directory before installing his own X stack. Guess what happens if you then uninstall the RPMs and afterwards run nvidia-uninstall. The files of the RPMs are restored but no longer belong to any package. This is what exactly happened in this case. Therefore I suggested to reinstall the RPMs and unistall them immediately again. Of cause you do! That's what the tongue-in-cheek was for :) I simply guessed at the reason why people do it. I use the NVIDIA packages, but that is because I run on bleeding edge factory and that seems to require having to build a matching nvidia module now and then.
