more KDE help for our LTSP setup
Could any of the KDE gurus help with this one. We've now got our menus exactly as we want them except for the fact that we can't work out what config files we need to change to remove the following: Lock screen Run command SuSE Menu SuSE Work Menu Settings All input gratefully received. Our ltsp setup goes live after next week's half term break. I'll let you all know how it goes! Cheers -- Phil Driscoll

Don't know without editing the source code...
SuSE Menu SuSE Work Menu
SuSE things, no idea.... Although IIRC in KControl isn't there something to allow you to disable SuSE's menus?
Settings
Removing the Settings directory from $KDEDIR/share/applnk should do it I guess.

Great, good luck :)

I think, Phil, that as of KDE 2.0, these items were "hard-coded" into the interface. Just as an aside, you'll have to remember to remove the keyboard shortcut for <ALT-F2> which will also bring up the "Run Command" dialogue box. You could always try FVWM2 (AnotherLevel -- Lestiff style), much nicer than KDE and a lot less bloated :-) But that's just my own choice. Not true at all. They are all defined via .desktop files which can be easily changed.

True, or maybe the ~/Desktop directory or the apps/kdesktop one or the applnk or .directory or .kdelnk files: these all interact in various clever ways to enable any network administrator with shell/perl script skills to keep control of all the desktops in the school. I have got a little way with this, but I'd very much appreciate a link to somewhere that explains all the entries and their effects and interactions - particularly if I may remove all the foreign language entries. -- Christopher Dawkins, Felsted School, Dunmow, Essex CM6 3JG 01371-822698, mobile 07816 821659 cchd@felsted.essex.sch.uk
