Hi Just seen a job advertised for an ICT network technician, one of the requirements is a knowledge of RM CC3, could someone please fill me in on what this is, I did go a google search, and did not really find very useful information. Found a few links to close combat 3, (much better methinks) lol. I have also found references to crocodile clips 3, which is even less useful, I think it stands for community connect 3. It seems as part of this it uses IIS for web services, (yuk) which I guess that means it runs on Doze, (when are RM going to move to the 21st century and offer Linux), do they not realise that Gartner don't recommend IIS, and that over 50% of the worlds web servers run Apache I think. ) Paul

(when are RM going to move to the 21st century and offer Linux), do they not realise that Gartner don't recommend IS, and that over 50% of the worlds web servers run Apache I think. ) They have but they keep it quiet, probable because they're a Microsoft
that means it runs on Doze, Ha! The joys or RM! Yes it does, but we have a few Linux boxes in place too :-) We have 2.4 but will be forced to 3 later (now that 2.4 is almost stable!) It features Win2000 servers and XP you'll be pleased to know! (we're on NT4 & 98) It's also difficult to shed it in bits, it's all or nothing really. Once the school has it's wheels in the rut.... Sorry Try http://www.rm.com/ partner! Whoops, about to rant. Enjoy the pretty lights in the sky Later Adrian Wells

As previously said, it's Microsoft with add-ons. Software packages can be rolled out to all workstations - that's about the only useful thing I've found. We have Connect2.4 - the wizards really are buggy. I hear good and very bad reports of CC3. Once you're in (on 2.4), it's really difficult to get out. I agree with the all or nothing statement. (Although I've just got a mini-lab in our library authenticating a bunch of debian workstations from our Connect server - I'm *so* very pleased. Anyone who deals with RM will understand the irony - lovely gnome 2.6 workstations from an RM server). -- Matt ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo! If you believe in the philosophy of FLOSS its difficult to see how it could be reconciled with the RM way of doing things. Its really a mini-version of the MS strategy focused on schools.

Agreed. Schools I have dealings with a wising up. I inherited our 2.4 network. Our new debian/gnome workstations are the third prong of my attack (the first being running services from linux boxes (intranet, databases, squid), the second being running our website with linux/zope/plone. Now kids and staff using linux workstations. Chipping away at the entrenched mindsets... -- Matt ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo! It gives us headaches because it insists on using Windows' own MSI installer, not Install Shield as used by 99% of software. It gives schools headaches because in order to make everything pupil proof it is damn near teacher proof too. Rumour has it that log-in times are a nightmare, but RM deny this.
