Perhaps I have caused some confusion. I am _not_ refering to the SUSE Firewall that comes with suse. I have made (via an online script) a firewall script, and all I want to do is know where to put it to run. I do not want to use the 'SUSE firewall' just my firewall ... and on SUSE. Does this make sense? --Azrael _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
Hello
I have made (via an online script) a firewall script, and all I want to do is know where to put it to run. I do not want to use the 'SUSE firewall' just my firewall ... and on SUSE.
There's two ways you can do this. If you have a dialup machine you can put a line into /etc/ppp/ip-up that points to where the firewall is. You have to do 'chmod 700 firewall' so that the script is executable. You can put the firewall anywhere but if you have /usr on a separate partition as most people do then you can put it in there somewhere. Or, if the connection is on all the time then you need to put the firewall into the place where the SuSE firewall would have been so that the init scripts start the firewall at boot time. Can't quite remember it just now but you should be able to ask this question on the SuSE security list where lots of instant help with firewalls is available. I was hoping that SuSE GmbH would put this info into their next manual. They always say that it's too big now and it already uses too many forests. Thanks -- Richard
My firewall script (custom made with ipchains) is located in
/etc/init.d/myfirewall
with a symbolic link from /etc/init.d/rc3.d/rc6myfirewall
This is called when ever the computer is put into run level 3 and just after
the network is started.
Hope this helps
