RE: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Emperor's new clothes
If we're talking ADSL, then you're best looking for a provider that just arranges the line presentation (ADSL splitter), then leaves you to sort out the connection. Most component resellers will be able to sell you an ADSL router, which will then provide an ethernet connection (either RJ45 or wireless) - that way there are no compatibility issues at all. Wireless is the most home-friendly option. We have friends who bring their laptops when they copme to stay, just borrow a wireless card and off they go! -----Original Message----- From: Paul Taylor To: SuSE for Schools Sent: 7/15/03 8:49 PM Subject: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Emperor's new clothes Hi all: Broadband is coming to my sleepy retreat in Dorset in September and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a modem/provider combination? BT only supply the "voyager" modem which does not (they claim) support Linux. I don't really want to use BT as they are robber baron's but don't know how much leighway there is? I have also looked at Virgin as they sem the lesser of many evils. I believe that UKFSN.org can do this, and you'll fund free software too. I'll be transferring my broadband connection when my contract is up for renewal. I'm currently a happy 0845 user when travelling. -- MJR/slef My Opinion Only and possibly not of any group I know. http://mjr.towers.org.uk/ jabber://slef@jabber.at Creative copyleft computing services via http://www.ttllp.co.uk/ Thought: Edwin A Abbott wrote about trouble with Windows in 1884
