Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] MIS, databases
Once you get into Java or JavaScript you start excluding quite a few platforms. I appreciate this - that's why I would insist on all functionality being available even on something as primitive (or leading edge :)) as a WAP interface, but you cannot deny that drag and drop will speed up a number of operations, and the richer user interface should not be denied to the overwhelming majority of users who will have access to a modern browser.

Problem is that you have to cope with multiple versions of Java/JavaScript (including unlicenced Java, such as you find with MS Windows.) The likes of drag and drop might also be provided by the desktop anyway. It might be better to use bog standard HTML and also have specialised "browsers". -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
hi all have a look at http://www.ukonline.gov.uk after choosing your region, you'll get a second page of info and some links at the bottom. let me know what happens when you try to access the Government Gateway :-), hint, use Netscape (with Linux or without) and you'll see that 14m spent with a certain well know operating system vendor that doesn't have a penguin logo has been worthwhile. I only get a problem if I go via www.ukonline.gov.uk. If I go straight to
the gateway, it's fine....

So true. No point in everyone being able to use it, if nobody wants to! Adrian
