RE: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Visually impaired Students
Assuming you mean KDE under Nymph thin client, I think it is possible to create specific settings for an individual student - bigger icons would not be enough; we'd also want a lower resolution, if possible. Anybody supporting a VI student under KDE? My suggestion (and Chris, you skimmed on this) is to dramatically increase your "dpi" settings for X when it loads to say something like 100. That way the text size ought to be large. -- Thomas Adam ===== Thomas Adam "The Linux Weekend Mechanic" -- www.linuxgazette.com ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? It might also be helpful to give them a reasonable sized desktop (e.g. 1024x768) but include a lower resolution mode such as 320x200, which they will be able to switch to with CTRL/ALT/+ to 'zoom in' when necessary. Bob G On Wed, 18 Jun 2003, Thomas Adam wrote:

Bob, This would most likely be WM specific to implement. Try looking at the program "xmag". HTH, -- Thomas Adam

No, the feature I'm talking about is in the XFree86 X servers. The WM and the clients know nothing about it, which makes it nice and general. But I had a play with xmag and that looks handy too! Bob G

Oh, right. I see what you mean. The description above was a little ambiguous at first! :)
But I had a play with xmag and that looks handy too!
Yes -- I suppose it is. I cannot think for another reason for using it :) HTH, -- Thomas Adam ===== Thomas Adam "The Linux Weekend Mechanic" -- www.linuxgazette.com ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? I use it to check colours and find tune layouts when I'm designing user interfaces. -- MJR/slef My Opinion Only and possibly not of any group I know. http://mjr.towers.org.uk/ jabber://slef@jabber.at Creative copyleft computing services via http://www.ttllp.co.uk/ Thought: "Changeset algebra is really difficult."

With xmag as a 'proof of concept' it shouldn't be so hard to write something that will let you point at a *window* and magnify that -- a sort of xmag with xwd's window selection options... Bob G
