Hi Im running Squid2 and Apache on my Suse server, and things are running okay. Just a couple of things I now need todo, first is to get the modem attached to it to dial on demand. And also set up email (will only be upto 10 users) All connecting clients will be Win95/98 How easy is sendmail to setup? (Demon Account) or is there a Webmail server that will do the sending a fetching of emails via Pop3 and/or SMTP, and allow users to "login" to access there email? I had this at home when I used Navaho on a Acorn RiscPC, but hav'nt found anything for Linux that is easy to setup. Can anyone suggest anything? Even with the m4 macros sendmail is a pain to set up, though very powerful. I haven't used it myself, but Exim is always spoken of highly.

I'm a little confused by what you mean by "webmail server", do you mean you connecting Windows client will access their email on the server via a web interface rather than using a standard POP3 / IMAP client?

Fetchmail will download email via POP3 and then distribute to local accounts by a variety of methods. I would *suspect* your web interface program will then just talk to these local mail stores.

Grab yourself a copy of "install sendmail" (it's listed at
www.freshmeat.net) it's a great little script which asks you a few
questions, and produces a customised sendmail.cf file for you.
I'd highly recommend it!

I had this working very well with Demon. You need 2 server packages 1 to collect the mail ( sendmail ) and 1 to allow your users to get mail from their workstations ( pop3 ). This isn't too hard once you realise you need 2 extra packages that are not installed by default ( I think ). To configure Sendmail get the sendmail-cf package I found the hardest part of this as a new Linux user was working out how to read the docs :-). For users I found the ipopd package best all I did was install it and my users can collect email useing their preferred program ( OutLook etc ). I don't know how to set this up as I didn't touch anything :-) Just installed and it worked. It provides both pop and imap. If you want to read email useing the web ( Yahoo, HotMail type setup ) take a look at IMP http://www.horde.org/imp/about/ If you need any help just shout. Simon.
