Does this mean we may finally get an IP based Netware client for Linux. I have never got the IPX ones to work. Good news though, gives me a transition path from my NW6 servers. Rob At 16:57 04/11/2003 +0000, you wrote:

I'm most depressed. Now I suppose SUSE is going to be prey to the machinations of the corrupt US legal system vis a vis patents and copyright :-( not to mention the global empire ambitions of the republinazi corporate right.
You might be right, in which case there's about a dozen other distros to choose from. Just pray we don't get an SCO Linux, a Novell Linux etc, etc, then we'd be back where Unix was...... the momentus events of the week have prompted me to post to this list...for the first time in ages...in part to get some other general points... 1. does the Novell takeover spell the end of KDE: we'll they recently acquired Ximian so i guess its possible 2. Red Hat does still do Linux (despite news reports and our own RHN emails this week). Errata and EOL for RH7.3/8.0 etc is imminent but there solutions in RHEL and more interestingly with.... 3. Fedora: which given the potential for multiple channels and repositories (incl apt-get, yum, as well as RHN) makes it versatile. Its still going to be the development/testing ground for Red Hat 4. lets hope that Suse exist in an independant / technically motivated way and that they are not made a SCO clone. long live Linux : open source and developments for education Malcolm On Wed, 5 Nov 2003, Phil Thane wrote:

It's very early days and so impossible to be certain what the long-term policy will be on this - however, there have been statements even from the Ximian guys in Novell that KDE will continue on SUSE. "Novell will continue to support KDE on SuSE, distribute its packages and maintain this offering which is a prime choice of people. We will also integrate Ximian Desktop into their offering, because it is a more fine-tuned desktop than the default Gnome one, and leverages all the enterprise features we added to it." (Miguel de Icaza on slashdot yesterday)
4. lets hope that Suse exist in an independant / technically motivated way and that they are not made a SCO clone.
I think it's very clear from the statements that have been made, but also from a consideration of what's in Novell's best interests that the necessary independence will be maintained. -- ----------------------------------------- Roger Whittaker Technical Consultant SUSE LINUX Ltd Appleton House 139 King Street Hammersmith London W6 9JG tel +44(0) 20 8846 3923 mob +44(0) 7866 602 434 fax +44(0) 20 8748 0538 roger.whittaker@suse.com ----------------------------------------- simply change to http://www.suse.com
